"Upton House is the adult psychiatric inpatient unit located at Eastern Health’s Box Hill Hospital site.Upton House provides care and support to people aged 18-64 who require an inpatient stay for the treatment of mental health issues. We have 25 beds, divided between an Intensive Care Area ICA and the Low Dependence Unit LDU. We offer multi-disciplinary treatment and support including access to psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, carer peer support workers and consumer consultants."

There's a few outstanding nurses and pyschiatrists around. But a lot of them seemed over worked and tired. One pyschiatrists even told me how tired he was and that he hadn't had much sleep. I felt the staff were trying their best. But it's obviously underfunded. The other patients were nicer than I had anticipated. But the facility itself was... extremely poor.

I developed post traumatic stress syndrome after being locked up in here and would take Eastern Health to court if I wasn't too traumatised. Some of the incidents that occurred while I was there was a sexual assault towards a young mother in there for post natal depression by a druggie, who was removed by another patient, the staff didn't even notice On a daily basis drugs were dropped off to inpatients who organised this on their mobile phones. The staff all sat around and gossiped in a central closed glass office and when a fight broke out between the more aggressive male patients, someone would have to run, knock on the glass and yell at them. They would then go and inject them with something and cart them off, distressing for everyone to witness. Personally, I was stalked by a psychotic male and when I asked what they were doing about that they said they had 'talked to him'. It made no difference. I have no idea why they have male patients in with vulnerable female patients or drug addicts who have become psychotic in with people with mental health illnesses. Please, please do not agree to have your loved ones and friends locked up in here. They are not safe and they will not improve.

One of the 'decent' wards in Melbourne. Room to move and smoke free (mostly) so you can breathe when you go outside. Unfortunately their psycs don't care about care plans or patient history and take a 5 week rather than 2 week recovery plan as 'normal' (no where in the world is this normal). The psycs are unfit to practice, but if you want a long holiday where they don't give a stuff and you only want to see your psyc doctor once a week (and pysc nurses do their jobs), this is your place.

Generally staff are great! However they are struggling with resources severely! !! The government really needs to take a hard look at the Mental health system! !! It needs to be overhauled! There is only awareness of mental health to the public! As far as genuine help goes, it's an absolute joke!!! Flaws in the System Big Time! Eg: my brother is severely depressed, and was discharged after 4 days with a public transport ticket to find his own way!!!!!! Politicians hope it happens to your kids!!! Then maybe you'll see what everyday people are suffering! !! Shame on you!!!

This place is not good and has a strong lack of care. I urge you to go anywhere else. My family member nearly died thanks to the lack of care. Many similar cases.
