Absolutely best place to exchange foreign currencies. Same as bank rate, no fees at all. I was just surprised such thing exists. Went to a few other places including a very famous one in the city, their rates are not any close to this rate. And the kiosk staff is absolutely kind and efficient. Highly recommended.
I have just collected my currency at the QV store. This was my second trip to the store. The experience is noting but frustrating , confusing and distressing. The time and train fares and stress it took me is just not worth the savings on the seemingly better rate but very poor service. Firstly, after paying $5k to order euro there was no email receipt sent to me with details of my currency. The first email that I received was four days later with no information except invoice number. When I mentioned it to the staff instead of listening to the customer he went on to explain they are short and busy etc. as if that is my problem . the woman standing behind him whom I think must be a manager or something did not offer any apologies for their own stuff up. I waited for the collection email and it came at the last hour by the time I arrived at the store there at least 30 people queueing. I had to make a special trip to the city the next day. I will not purchase any currency from them again. Like I said, it is not worth the stress and time.
*Review edited to be fair to the team at UCE group. While their exchange rate and lack of additional fees offers a more compelling proposition than their competitors, my multiple visits have highlighted that the wait times are always long and extensive irrespective of branch or preorder status. On the most recent occasion - all staff manning the counters were in-training. While there is no issue with training itself, other businesses tend to avoid having all counters simultaneously manned by in-training staff in the interest of workflow and customer throughput. In their defense, once at the front of the queue, the preorder pickup process is quick. My initial harsh criticisms were taken in positive stride without hostility, big points for that. Whether the extensive wait times negates the better exchange rate that the UCE group offers will depend on what your time is worth and the volume of currency you are exchanging. While I won't be back personally, best to evaluate based on your own circumstances.
It takes 8 days for pre-ordered Exchange which is a bit annoying . So you have to plan early. Otherwise , they are a good Money Exchange service
There is two branches at QV. A hole in a wall one entered from the corner of Lonsdale st n’ Swanston st. And a shop one entered from Russell street opposite Diso. The staff are lovely come early or order online otherwise you might have to queue up for awhile.
Overall a very disappointing first time experience with UCE. There are several key operational flaws in the process, in my opinion. 1. Order to Readiness of Currency - It took 10 days from time of placing order online until confirmation of readiness for currency pick up. This was for a fairly average amount of cash exchanged too... Also, UCE did NOT confirm readiness for pick up as their emails advised they would, rather I had to call the store after the system generated estimated pick up date given at time of ordering to confirm if the money was indeed ready. 2. Store Pick Up Process - I understand that UCE advise at their QV Store that they are short staff, however it is still absolutely unacceptable to have to wait for over 1 hour standing in line just to serve what was approximately 10 people ahead of me in line. Because of this, I had to cancel an appointment I had scheduled an hour apart from my arrival. 3. Administrative Process - At time of ordering you have to enter personal details, yet on arrival to store, they need to seemingly re-enter details. It just seems like such a duplicated process and adds unnecessary time to each store transaction. I only gave this review 2 stars instead of 1 as the staff in store were professional and friendly. The store manager also did his best to acknowledge the frustration of the lengthy line. UCEs online ordering process is also quite straightforward, albeit not worth going through the pain, per above points.
Place is clean, staff are friendly and exchange rate seems good - however a few things to note: 1. exchange rate not published on screens and requires you to ask which can be annoying if there is a long line. 2. if exchanging U.S dollars, they only accept newly redesigned notes from 2013 which makes it frustrating if you only have old notes. 3. there can be a shortage of foreign currency notes requiring you to order or come back on another day.
My experience at this currency exchange was very nice. The staff treated the customers with kindness, the service that was provided was quite fast and the money that gets exchanged is all accurate and no mistakes are made. If you were to go to any currency exchange, I highly recommend going to this one.
Good rates, pleasant staff but oh so long a queue
best currency exchange and rates in Melbourne. Long wait times but well worth it, usually someone comes out to ask you what you need help with as th que gets pretty long. Cash only though.
