Tulip's Cafe

I read bad review after bad review before deciding I would try this cafe to see how bad it could possibly be. I wanted to go somewhere my 2 year old daughter could play while we had breakfast. To my surprise, the play area is amazing and my daughter played for 45 minutes straight! The flat white, cappuccino and babycino we ordered were all good, and the food was fine. I'm not a foodie by any means so as long as the coffee was good and my daughter was happily playing it was a win. Staff and cleanliness were fine also. And it was busy with families and kids enjoying themselves.

A hilariously poor experience. We made a booking for 6 plus a child, and arrived to them closing the kitchen. So, only cake and drinks available. I have no idea why you would accept a large booking with notice if you knew you wouldn’t be able to cater to them. The high chair was missing its straps and my son nearly fell out. They used two of the same table numbers (there were two other tables going when we were there) and kept sending the wrong orders. Three tables at once was clearly too many for them to keep track of. One of my friends had to reorder her cake because it never arrived. You’d think that without a kitchen you could still order the pies and sausage rolls displayed in the fridge, but apparently those are heated in a toaster oven which the chef does. After explaining my toddler was going to have a meltdown if he didn’t have real food, they condescended to serve me a sausage roll heated in the microwave. I have a personal policy of always being polite to wait staff and I really struggled to stick to it. They do have some gluten free items in their cake options, however most are squished up next to their glutenous cakes and are therefor not safe for anyone with genuine allergies. They kicked us out at 3:30 (despite advertising that they are open til 4).

Sadly I cannot give zero stars. The play area for the kids is the only positive and I say this with no suggestion you should ever consider going here. The staff are terrible, no help, no interest, just unpleasant. An example was after explaining very clearly to the staff that my two year old son has a dairy allergy and there can be no chocolate on the babychino, it comes out looking like a chocolate mud cake.... The food is average, nothing further. The coffee (I am a coffee snob so take this with a grain of salt), is the single worst coffee I have ever had. I have never spat a coffee back into the cup and walked out but on this occasion I was done. For a better experience, I would recommend doing your taxes while drinking river water in a Centrelink waiting area.

Too bad you can't give negative stars! Stay away from this place! I see that many people talk about how the staff are disinterested, I do not think it's their fault, the manager there is a dragon lady, no class or manners. I complained about something and she took my head off...so much for customer service! If I had to work under her I would be acting just like the staff there; dismayed & disinterested ...give a pass by when you drive by the nurseries

Great spot for kids. Just let them loose and actually enjoy a conversation!
