My 4 year old son loves the karate classes. I can get him to do anything if it follows by the karate class. Sensei Steve doesn't just teach the karate moves, he trains the kids to be disciplined and hard-working in a very kind manner. These classes are just perfect for kids.
My 4yo Son has been attending karate lessons for the past month and I am so happy with his progress. After trying other local karate schools we have found Toyakan the best. They are so welcoming and really supportive to the little ones. We couldn’t be happier.

Excellent Karate Club run by a wonderful master, Kancho Paul Butterfield. The dojo is very well designed with 2 floors of training space, well matted floors and mirrors, making an excellent training environment. The instructors are phenomenal, Kancho Paul and Sensei Lewis are the best instructors I have ever trained with. The support offered by the higher ranks towards the junior ranks makes training a pleasure. Furthermore the classes for children are excellent as well. My son and I have a great time training here and I would highly recommend this club to anyone wishing to begin their Martial Arts journey, and for those looking to continue an existing journey on a better road, this is a club for you.
I can't recommend this club any more highly. My young daughter has been attending for 6 months and not only is she learning self defense she's learning how to be a better person through their principles. The owner and operator Paul has so much patience for the children and works so hard to make sure every child is reaching their full potential. Hands down the best dojo on the cost!
My 4 year old son has been participating in Karate with the Toyakan Higashi club for about 6 weeks now. We are new to Karate and cannot speak highly enough about it and the club. It has shown him both individual and team sport philosophies whilst providing the perfect balance between fun and age appropriate discipline. The hardest part is keeping my 3 year old from participating... he cannot wait to join.
My 5 year old has been attending sessions for nearly a year now and without doubt his patience, focus and confidence have improved as a direct result of Kancho’s immense positive influence. He is also learning the important life lesson of incremental success through gradings and belts. The best part is that he loves it.
We are very impressed with the way these Senseis cater to different age groups, personalities and ability levels. We have one super outgoing 8 year old who couldn’t get onto the mats of the dojo fast enough, needs focus and calming and one super shy 4 year old that cried, not wanting to go onto the mats, needed motivation and was holding back doing the moves. They both fell in love with the sport, advanced quickly, are growing in confidence, still loving the sport, the dojo and all the amazing leaders. Highly recommend !
