The food was good the only issue they had no charshu it got replaced with the terriaki chicken .. which to say at best was alittle odd flavour to add in to theramen the bowl was solid had an ok miso flavour . The noodles a little disappointing . Tho in compliment they was very adaptable to ordering extras
Always a winner pre theatre. We had the tasting menu which was delicious, especially the salmon sashimi number with rice crackers and the green tea brulee was spectacular. Service is always friendly and fantastic.
Lovely place - been back a few times. The lamb cutlets and oysters were wonderful. And my partner really liked the beef tataki. I feel like the restaurant's recent change to the menu means it isn't quite as good - but hopefully the new season brings it right back up again. It's nice that the restaurant is tucked away a little making it quieter and less busy than the ribs house nearby.
There is a very beautiful atmosphere and ambience to this restaurant despite it's funky name. The decor is stylish, yet quirky and intriguing, but once the food and sake arrive, it all builds up making a great experience. The staff are very friendly, and the food is simply beautiful and exquisite in their presentation and flavouring of balance and ascendancy. There is a range of sake that suits a range of taste, palates and food pairing. It's a bit of a shame I don't have the liver to try the cocktails too, but they certainly caught my eye. A definite place to revisit, solo, couple or group.
Nicely decorated restaurant with very attentive amd friendly staff. I really liked how you looked out on to the street with the funky chandeliers! The food was delicious! The grilled pork was amazing!!!! So soft and tender with a charred and crispy surface, yum! The dessert was so creamy and silky and had great flavours
Had the chef's tasting menu with dessert and wine and it was delicious other than pretty filling too! The grilled pork literally melts in your mouth! Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
Not able to get to Japan this year, my partner and I opted for a taste of Tokyo right here in Sydney. We did the set menu and it was just awesome. A great selection of dishes, wide range of flavours and textures and best of all, the service by the Tokyo Laundry staff is just perfect. Love love loved it.
We are very fond of Japanese culture, so much so, that Japan is the country we chose to visit for our honeymoon a few years ago. It’s a cuisine that is number one choice for us when trying to decide where to dine. We like the clean food, quality proteins and flavour combinations, amidst the careful planning and plating. When we heard about Tokyo Laundry, we were overwhelmingly happy to visit. The location couldn’t be more convenient, only about 100 metres from Circular Quay station. In the Gateway Plaza, it occupies a spacious area of the first floor, seating for 180 customers. We got the train in and made our way over to the restaurant. Dimly lit with purple hues from the art and lights, it feels like a sophisticated dining space. Headed by ex-Yoshii and Saké chef Naoki Hozawa, he has curated a wonderful menu of Japanese dishes. A modern take of the traditional Japanese Izakaya style of food, which is great for group dining. In Japanese, Izakaya is typically designed for you to share some plates of food together. That’s exactly what we did, ordering a few things to share between the two of us. If you’re not into sharing, the serving sizes are incredibly generous you can easily eat something yourself or even grab a mix of foods in the daytime bento box during the lunch rush. They also have a fully stocked bar with wines and Japanese beers as well as unique list of interesting cocktails amongst traditional cocktails. I tried the .... The menu was extremely appealing, with it being divided into appetisers / small plates, noodles and rice, mains and sushi and sashimi. For entrees we loved the fresh Kingfish ceviche, served with cherry tomato, onion, yuzu kosho dressing. We also liked the Chicken gyoza with ponzu jelly, and we tried some of the bao, new to the menu. The beef bao, a Smoky truffle flavour was delicious and the pork belly also comes highly recommended. Being a huge fan of Wagyu, especially at Japanese, due to its high quality and precision cooking, I of course ordered the wagyu steak.  An MB5+ wagyu rump steak is served feathered on the plate, the meat thinly sliced, seasoned by the amiyaki sauce soy based. It came with a small serving of corn, pickles and some shredded crispy potato. All items worked super well together and I’m glad to have selected this. The other main we selected was also a great choice - the Teriyaki chicken donburi with seasonal vegetables had an awesome flavour which it was marinated in and it was an extremely generous serving. If you want to try some of their weekly cocktails, we recommend happy hour, where they are $10 and selected beers and wines for $7 between Sundays to Thursday 5:30 - 7:00pm. Drinks wise, I went for what is known to be the popular ladies drink - the ‘Geisha Kiss’ is a lovely cocktail, mixed with sake, gin and Cointreau. It is beautifully presented in a short glass with lychee and topped with foam and rose water petals. Certainly very easy to drink! For the non-drinkers, there are mocktails and sodas, and the Yuzu and lychee soda was very refreshing.
Tokyo Laundry was highly recommended by friends, so we thought we would try it. Due to COVID the menu was limited yet the service was not. Popcorn shrimp, mushroom gyoza, tempura veggies, karaage chicken ... all were sensational!! Highly recommended
Late of a Saturday, we pounced upon an open table at Tokyo Laundry close to kitchen closing-time when many other establishments were already shut or fully booked. What a fortunate turn of events, because we had a fantastic experience. Dishes with texture, flavor, precision, balance all delighted us with nobody complaining about their various choices. Water was frequently topped up and we felt well attended to with the food arriving in good time. Worth another look when visiting the Circular Quay area.
