beautiful stunning cafe. i was in love with the ambience, cool vintage cozy vibes !! it’s a shame that the food was a bit lacking : i got the pumpkin risotto special which was frankly uninspired, serious lack of seasoning at $28. it just tasted like rice with butter spinach and pumpkin. the steak sandwich was pretty good, but for $25 not really worth it. the coffee was alright. having said all that, it is a seriously cool spot to hang out, i would just recommend skipping on the food and having some drinks.
Some cafés you stumble into. Some you feel like you've always known. Tin Pot is firmly the second kind.nA North Fitzroy institution since the nineties — worn hardwood floors, bentwood chairs, a Tiffany lamp over a marble counter stacked with croissants and focaccia, vintage posters lining the bar wall, stained glass porthole windows. The whole room feels assembled by someone with a lot of stories and very good taste.nI came in for a latte on a busy weekday. The coffee was solid, the food cabinet genuinely tempting, and the vibe completely unpretentious. Nothing trying-too-hard here. Just a great neighbourhood café doing its thing.
Frankly, I really like this place. It’s charming and they have great cherry pie. I’ve been a few times now and think the waiters are under a lot of pressure given that it’s quite a busy joint. I thought the slightly condescending service was a one-off but I don’t think this is the case. I did honestly feel like I was treated differently as I’m eastern-looking… and was sad to see in the comments that I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
To be honest the coffee itself wasn’t bad but it was very small for the price. The customer service was also not it as we kept getting ignored by the staff and the owner whenever we tried to ask for something because the table we were seated at had nothing but sugar. We asked for water and they just walked off without giving us an answer but that usually doesn’t matter except he genuinely never came back with that water even though he kept looking back at us. Also we tried ordering dessert but they said they sold out but 10 minutes later we saw them serve 3 different tables with muffins which was genuinely so confusing but whatever. Anyways coffee is fine and i’m sure the food is good too but i definitely wouldn’t come back because they did not make us feel welcome at all.
5star right across the board the staff and owners where awesome inviting and it has a warm feeling everyone in the building happy and there is a buzz around the place food delicious I’m gluten free and plenty to choose from. Didn’t get to try the cherry pie looked amazing
