Story

Third Wave has become a religious experience on the Melbourne restaurant scene. Since opening in 2010, we have cemented a reputation as a great neighborhood cafe with a loyal breakfast and lunch crowd. People come from far and wide to enjoy our exceptional coffees and vast breakfast & lunch menu. Then by night, we transform into a bustling BBQ joint, inspired by the classic American smoke houses of the deep south. Today we are proud to be recognised as one of the best American BBQ experiences you'll have outside of the US.

How it began
Inga is the passionate owner of Third Wave Cafe, a lady with a fierce drive for delivering a quality product, which spills into every area of the business, from grass fed locally sourced meat to perfectly textured milk in your coffee from 5 Senses beans. Its been Inga’s dream to own and operate a café. So after nagging her husband for about a decade, the dream finally came true.

We like to think we have mastered the art of slow smoking, especially using our custom built smoker, named Brutus. Our American BBQ meats are melt-in-your mouth, fall-off-the-bone delicious. The house made BBQ sauces are so good that some customers want to drink them.

Uniquely, you can have our amazing menu delivered to your home. We deliver up to 10km from Port Melbourne, 7 days a week. Order online on our website or call 96762399. Our delivery service extends to a full catering service where the whole menu can be ordered for your private functions delivered to most areas of Melbourne.

A busy, lively authentic American BBQ restaurant. We tried the all you can eat. We could barely finish the first round. Everything was tender and beautifully smoked. Every piece of meat was succulent and tasty. If you like American BBQ this is the place to come. The wait staff were vibrant and friendly. A generous hospitable unique place.. Well done Third Wave!
Amazing restaurant with good atmosphere and capacity. The burgers and ribs are absolutely amazing, very juicy and tender. Ordering was easy via the phone and we didn’t wait too long for the food. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Check out the meat being cured on the way to the toilet. I’ll be back for sure.
Was all hyped up to have some good American style BBQ but was sorely disappointed. Meat platter for two came in at $119 and the menu said should be enough to feed two hungry people or three. This could have been eaten by one person. Candy bacon, onion rings and chips were okay Brisket was okay but had no smoke ring and while juicy, was not that flavoursome. Them came the chicken wings. While the looked cooked on the outside, they were still red on the inside with some blood and when we complained, the waitress said that was normal. No-one in their right mind eats raw chicken. The smoked Mac and cheese tasted like rubber. The only thing that makes me give this place more than 1 star is the rib. It had good flavour and almost fell of the bone. Not to mention that there was also a Saturday surcharge of almost $10 which was mentioned nowhere. Greatly disappointed and will not be wasting money here again.
Third Wave cafe has now become my favourite cafe in Melbourne. Although it takes me 50 minutes to get there each time, they never disappoint us. I love their juicy beef ribs! And the XXXL spring roll they offered as a limited time promo tasted delicious! Found out the 2 spring rolls are different flavours, one beef ones pork. Really impressed us!
This is our third time to third wave and each time it always gets better. The food is always deliciously amazing! The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. Huge shout out to Alto and cal for giving us the VIP treatment.
I have been thinking about going here for roughly 3 years sounds long but given that I was locked up for 2 years it's fair. The restaurant is smaller than I thought the food is bigger than I thought. What a fantastic meal probably ordered too much but we did our best enrolled out. You have to order and pay on a QR code would rather see a proper menu it is difficult between us going backwards and forwards on a phone. Everyone was looking on their own phone and then the one person ordering his to find the same item on their phone next time we will be more organised there will be a next time!
Have been wanting to visit for a while so we took daughter here for her birthday. She received a free meal which was so much food and so nice. We both had the ribs, Mac and cheese/coleslaw as sides and she also had the candy bacon. Son had a burger and chips. Food was so tasty and serving size was more than enough. Easy to order and staff were very attentive. Will definitely be returning to try more of their delicious food. Do yourself a favour and drop by, you will not be disappointed
Wouldn’t expect this spot to have vegan options but they do and they’re absolutely delicious. The vegan brisket is made with Fable, my absolute favourite mock meat, and cooked in a tasty barbecue sauce that I believe is house made. Meanwhile, my partner got the meat brisket as part of his free birthday meal which includes a meat, starter and side for free as long as you’re dining with someone else. It’s an unbelievably great deal considering the size of the meal. The service was quick and friendly and the place was packed, so it’s obviously a local favourite, freebies or not.
Amazing beer battered chips, the meat is to die for, the lamb falls off the bone, oh and the bacon, it's crispy and delicious, the chicken is the opposite to dry, everything is seasoned to perfection. I absolutely loved the 'Shankebab'. It fed my wife and I very well. Absolutely delicious. 1000% recommend.
I saw the birthday deal on their website and registered for it. Free birthday meal +/-7 days of your birthday. You can get one entree + one meat + one side or one meat + one side + one dessert on their birthday menu. I ordered chicken quesadilla, beef ribs and spicy fries. My partner ordered a burger + milkshake. Portion is so big that we could not finish all the food. All food are decent and definitely will come back to try out other food.
