With a European-inspired food and drink offering, independent cinema and diverse music program, the Theatre Royal continues a tradition since 1854 as the social and cultural hub of Castlemaine.

Built during the Gold Rush as an entertainment venue, the Theatre Royal is one of Australia's oldest continuously operating theatres.

Divine. Red plush up top but sofas and cushions below for the win. Lovely staff, licensed, spacious, and art deco to enjoy everywhere. Memories of staying here 20-something years ago amd being able to peek into the auditorium from behind the screen. Also come just for the bar, can sit in the lane with beer and pizza, it's delightful.
No longer serving their fabulous pizzas very sad, but talent is being showcased and promoted. Great venue for emerging and established artists. Locals love it and visitors are now coming too! Old building is gorgeous.
Arts centre with shows & bar/Cafe which serves great pizza. Inside outside dining.
Just love the theatre ..it has so much to offer from live music. New blockbuster & Art house movies . Has great food and drinks offering. The staff are friendly. The bars are a great place to meet up and have a good time. I have see countless local and international bands and live acts .
Multifunctional heritage venue - bar with outside area for patrons, live shows, theatre & movies. Interesting history that warrants a drop in to look see in daytime. The infamous Lola Montez performed here & that's quite an entertaining story...
Great place for movies concerts coffee and a beer or wine
Great pizzas little bit small but quality is great and really nice outdoor setting.
The choc top was special too. Difficult in the dark and when the lights came up I had it all over my shirt!!!!
It was a gorgeous evening, and the beer garden was lovely to sit out in. The pizzas were nice.
Such an.icon - delicious pizza, beautiful round-the-back garden for drinks, food and afternoon tunes. Great curated film offerings, with comfy couch seating downstairs recommended. Love the range of gigs. Good people watching out front while you imbibe and eat during daytime, and earlier on Friday and Saturday nights. Absolutely pumping and core to the Castlemaine state festival.
