We just had a 70th birthday party for my wife and me at The Vicar, in the lovely separate function room called ‘The Place’. There were almost 100 of us including grandkids and the venue was ideal for size and comfort and would easily accommodate a bigger group. The Vicar food options were varied and excellent and almost all of it was consumed and we only had a small amount to put in containers to take home afterwards.nnWe had a Mad Hatters’ Tea Party theme and they allowed helium balloons on weights on the tables as well as Blu-tacked decorations on the windows, all of which we removed afterwards. The room also has its own good sized and staffed bar and is fully air conditioned and so was toasty warm on a very cold July day.nThere was also a stage, which we used for an impromptu performance by a group of 20 lady singing ukulele players among us who put on a 45 minute show just for our benefit. Given The Place is in a separate building to the main hotel we didn’t disturb the other patrons. We could use the PA system with a provided mic and also the projector for the mandatory photo show of the now 70 year olds, right back to their childhoods.nnAll the staff were very helpful and the afternoon festivities ended all too quickly with the stragglers hanging around to help us remove our decorations.nnWe would highly recommend this venue and the hotel in general, which we have been patronising regularly for almost 2 years now, right back to the end of Covid restrictions.nIn that time the menu has increased in options and improved overall under the leadership of a new chef.nThe singing ukelists rehearse at a members’ home every two weeks and The Vicar welcomes 10 of the husbands at the same time who play cards from 10am - 2pm with lunch at about 12.00.nnWell done The Vicar!
Plenty of parking and they really managed to make the entire place very accessibility friendly only one set of stairs in the entire joint to get up to some pool tables. Very clean.nnThe food was very good. The cauliflower bites were an absolute stand out, crunchy and flavourful breadcrumbs and not too oily. I ordered the cheeseburger and was a bit surprised when it came out because it looks very underwhelming see photos but the flavour and bun quality were outstanding. My partner had a steak with salad and chips. The steak was expertly cooked but the salad was really simple: a bit of rocket with balsamic vinegar and a tiny shaving of Parmesan. Not a single shred of tomato or onion or even a slice of cucumber. The chips were also tiny, like there were plenty of them but they were all about 2cm long. So basically good food but not perfect by any means. The cocktail was expertly made and well balanced.nnI went at around 4pm on a Friday and didn’t have any unreasonable waits for food or drinks. The menu isn’t actually pricey when you look at the local competitors like The Duke. I did find the music was a touch too loud, even at 4pm on a weekday.
Disdainful staff. First time visiting. Asked two staff to start the wood fires.nFreezing day and no one could be bothered to put the gorgeous fireplace heaters on.nAverage food.nLots of potential but I won’t be bothering to visit again. Lots of other places nearby to go where the staff care about the customer experience.
Fairly mid experience. Saw an advertisement in the menu for Thursday's pints for schooners. Only to be told I need to be a member. I'm cool with that so I give all my details and sign up.. then only to be told it's only during the footy. I wouldn't have cared if they didn't scam me into becoming a member for no reason. Will just go to the Duke next time. At least they're honest.
How could I live in Sydney for 30 years and not know of this place? Had a great night with friends here. Enjoyed the food but more than anything I was impressed by open spaces, good lighting and generally a very enjoyable atmosphere.
