Old Treasury is one of the finest nineteenth century buildings in Melbourne and was designed by 19 year old architect JJ Clark.

Story

The Old Treasury Building is a nineteenth century Renaissance-revival building which was built to house the state gold.
The OTB still hosts the original gold vaults where gold bullion was stored during the gold rush era, as well as rare and historic documents from Public Record Office Victoria highlighting key moments from Victoria’s history.
Come and explore the intriguing gold vaults and you may earn yourself a gold license!

Definitely a city icon, great architecture. Easy to get to . Just get off at parliament station .So much history in this building. Highly recommended spot for all tourists to stop by and enjoy. There is also spot to.do.around in this area just walk down collins.

Great museum with good organisation of info. But a bit stuffy in summer time. Poor air ventilation.

Cool Building! Perfect location at the end of a main street. You can see the building when you are travelling in the tram or walking.

Unless you're a history buff or really interested in the gold rush, you won't find this place too exciting. However, the historical panoramas of the city are really neat to compare to the current ones!

This amazing piece of Melbourne history, designed as a strong hold for riches dug up during the gold rush is a must see! Still in use as a Government building, everyone is welcome to come inside and see the historic static displays on the ground floor. Read the exploits of Bush Rangers - see the armour worn by Dan Kelly, Ned's younger brother and death mask of 'Mad Dan' Morgan.
