Story

A citadel is the core fortified area or hub of a town or city. It may be a fortress or a Castle.
We are creating a hub for our community to get to know each other and grow together. We want to create a place that brings people in from other communities to see what a beautiful place we live in whilst eating some of the best food and drink this town has to offer!!



"The Citadel Cafe and Restaurant is definitely worth the trip.Located right near the beach in rejuvenating Castlecliff.The streets are planted with succulents and the air is filled with sea.We offer a cool, welcoming, beachy vibe. We can provide you with delicious, healthy, hearty, food and drink options. We are fully licensed, caffeine filled and fun aplenty. We source local ingredients and specialise in gourmet burgers, seasonal salads, small plates and in-house baked cabinet food. Our locally grown hand-cut chips are famous.All our menu items can be made available Takeaway except booze But most folk want to sit in.We pride ourselves on operating a GLUTEN FREE KITCHEN."

What an awesome relaxed cafe. Visited with 2 kids who have food allergies, and the staff were very helpful and able to work around this. Not relevant to us, but they have a separate kitchen for gluten free items. The staff were excellent, the food delish, and the location and outdoor seating was really nice. There's activities to keep the kids occupied and even some games to be played too. Got a takeaway coffee which was far too bitter for my liking but other than that a great experience all round.
Gorgoues wee eccentric vibe. Loved it. Went here again the other day and sat in their outdoor section and was very cute and had a great atmosphere. The fires were amazing. Cocktail range was limited but they were well priced and delicious. Great wee spot.

Still sitting here writing this.... As word has to go out... Busy very busy night , but made room for us with no hassle. On our roadtrip, the best burgent and hard to top this... Nice bun, supper nice chicken and great vegitarian options!. Delicious local drinks Lads IPA is smooth! Very friendly staff, specialy knowing it's @ buzzing busy night. Out of curiosity looked at previous low reviews... Nothing I read there came as the truth... Maybe a bad night of a kitchen slip-up, but this night was is great. Full from the burger menu, but still looking at an desert too.... This place also does takeaways and looking at the glow of customers, all locals must think it's a great place. Well done Whanganui!
AMAAAZING!!!! The food, the coffee, the atmosphere. So good! Never fails to disappoint!!!!! I had the tofu salad....it was spectacular!!! My friend had the pumpkin soup and garlic chibata. We shared and both were absolutely devine. The coconut láte was devine aswell. Keep up the great mahi Citadel Cafe.
Amazing coffee - both mocha and iced coffee, loved that! Very relaxing atmosphere, great vibe, great choice of music, one of the best fish&chips I have ever had, Eden salad tip top and in general, prefect time over here! Love this place!
Ordered an iced mocha and iced choc and was pleasantly surprised by the ice cream on top. Yummy if you have a sweet tooth! The decor of the cafe was quirky and intriguing. Staff very friendly. Food on the menu looked so good, it was a pity that I already had lunch and was full.
Nice place to eat at great to see Dogs were allowed our little fella loved it enjoying tip bits from Dad. Supplied hats for outside water for the dogs and humans of course. Definitely a place I well return too.Food: 5/5
