Story

The Bistro is a Taupo locals eatery, producing simple contemporary New Zealand food with the freshest regional ingredients. The Bistro is a family owned Restaurant set up by local Chef Jude Messenger. Jude’s outlook on cooking is “Simple But Nice”.

The Bistro provides a European style dining experience at a price that the average Kiwi can afford. We are open from 3pm until midnight, Tuesday to Sunday.

Reviews

Managed to squeeze into the Saturday evening rush. Is popular so usually fully booked. 
Had the king fish special (they had the king fish in only that day), very good. 
Portions are small to medium sized, they taste good and don't leave you feeling full. 
Pricey compared to a lot of the surrounding restaurants, but the food tastes good.

I'm not usually one to complain but that was some of the worst service of ever experienced and the food was so so bad ... Not really sure how this restaurant is still in business. Didn't finish any of the meals because they were all terrible. I'm a builder and I could do better in the kitchen myself.  Such a shame.... really put a damper on our wedding anniversary.

Was told by a client to dine here this long weekend.  I cannot even describe how good the Duck was.  Four of us dinned and had a fab long meal.  Calamari, prawn, ceviche and rabbit terrine entries. Mains of Pork, duck, scotch, fish and desserts.  Brilliant food worth experiencing!

The best food I have had in a long time! It was just amazing! The service was 10/10 as well! Would totally recommend.

Jenny was most helpful, fitting our part of eight in. The menu looked great, the reality was better! Had the hapuka, sweet corn, cherry tomatoes and mushroom puree, Sounded different, went really well. Great wine list, making notes and coming back.
