The Bakers Duck
"From our earliest beginnings, we’ve had a dream to forge a community brought together by a love of our craft.Along the way we’ve dared to believe that a regional bakery could produce world-class croissants, hand-crafted pastries and artisan sourdough bread. We’ve never rushed the journey we’ve been on and to this day we take our time making food to be savoured and enjoyed. Because we want every moment we share together to be incredible and every bite to be an unforgettable one."

It came highly recommended though that might have raised my expectations too high... We arrived on a drizzly Saturday morning to a fairly busy/bustling little corner store cafe, and managed to get some of the last remaining seats inside. I was told they sell pies but I didn’t see any, so maybe those were already sold out. So we tried a few other items: * almond croissant, $9.50 Decent compared to others in/around Brisbane I’ve tried, though couldn’t dethrone my favourites. It has a good amount of frangipane that wasn’t too sweet. It was also getting pretty close to Lune’s pricing for the same item so that’s getting up there. * pork, sage & apple sausage roll, $8.50 Good sized serve, and it was still steaming hot inside. Wouldn’t say the pastry was particularly crispy/flaky on the outside, nor the filling firm with good bite on the inside… overall flavour was nice but not my preferred style of sausage roll. * bacon quiche, $8.50 Pretty good. This was the boy’s choice and he ate almost all of it. I tried some and found it quite agreeable to my tastes. * pumpkin, spinach & feta quiche, $8.50 Didn’t try any but it seemed to be consistent with the bacon version. Next time I'll try some of the sweet stuff, and maybe even make an effort to catch a pie.
When we venture to Toowoomba, we almost always go here. The best pastries by far and well worth it. Not cheap but very high quality. Flat white is $5, well above Brisbane prices. You can dine in or takeaway. Seating inside and outside. This time we devoured these delicacies, strawberry cheese cake for $8.50. Yummo. They hang flowers from the ceiling and it makes an interesting decor. Sorry for the poor photo.
We tried various types of savoury and sweet pastries! Pastry is a lovely texture and they have a few interesting flavour combos that I haven’t seen in Brisbane. Their sausage rolls are great, along with the quiche and strawberry cheesecake. Almond croissant is not the best I’ve had, but was fine. Ultimately I am taking off a star because the coffee was quite bitter and gross, and frankly it’s not worth the money. There were also quite a few things that were on the menu but were not available to try which is a little annoying. I think that this bakery is also quite pricey so you only want to get a couple things. Pictured are around $80 worth of pastries, so you can see how expensive it gets. But it is definitely worth a try just not the coffee.
Cute little bakery with delicious desserts. On the pricey end, but worth it for a treat! Pictured: Strawberry cheesecake, passionfruit chocolate fold, plain croissant, almond croissant and others
If you’re travelling by Toowoomba and don’t stop by Baker’s duck, you’re doing yourself dirty... Almond croissant is top tier, I think I like it more than CJ at Kangaroo point which is easily superior to a lot of other almond croissants in other Brisbane joints. Pies are good- wow that steak pie. The chorizo danish we had was good. I have to mention that their pastry is very very good. Everything was G O O D good, except for maybe the coffee coffee was ok. Make a pit stop!! This is the kind of place people who aren’t morning people get up in the AMs and drive 1.5hrs from Brisbane for, just to get a nice selection of diff pastries. It’s worth it!
Pastries here never disappoint! Always so fresh and plenty of options to explore new tastes, or to settle into some classics. Thank you for being the highlight of every Toowoomba trip!
ATTENTION ALL TRAVELLERS...... This is a must. If you are in Toowoomba, stop and have the most absolute delicious pastries I have ever had. Grab a fabulous coffee to compliment you choice. Remember to get in earlier before they sell out though. I'm going back for more to take home to the Sunshine Coast.
Love The Baker's Duck. This is my go-to bakery for delicious coffee and exciting, beautiful and varied scrumptious pastries. Always something new to try and always something that is a familiar favourite.
The sweet pastries were absolutely DEVINE! One of the best, if not the best, pastries we've tried in Toowoomba. Flaky & buttery without being too messy to eat. The vanilla, custard and cheesecake pastries were our favourite. They were a hit in the office!
Clearly this bakery is very popular; the queue was out the door on the Sunday morning we were there. I guess that normally pre-Covid there are more tables and chairs inside, but they were sparse, and with just a few tables outside. By the time we got there around 11am many of the pastries had been devoured, but there were still some beauties in the display cabinet. We grabbed a coffee and a couple of pastries and headed off to the nearby park for consumption. The pastries were wonderful - crisp and light and flaky. My filled croissant had many lovely layers with a delicious cream cheese filling, while the quiches were savoury and tasty. The coffee was okay, but a bit weak for my tastes. The staff seemed a bit tired and one a bit grumpy? but I suppose they had been super busy since early morning so I can't blame them really. All in all, really fabulous food - and we will be back!
