Story

Tauranga Hospital is part of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board. Covering 9,666 square kilometres, the DHB serves a population of 221,000 and stretches from Waihi Beach in the North West to Whangaparaoa on the East Cape and inland to the Urewera, Kaimai and Mamaku ranges. The BOPDHB’s activities range from delivering health and disability services through its hospitals here and Whakatāne, community health and disability services, and mental health services, through to support functions such as the clinical directorate, corporate services, and information management services. The DHB also plans health service development, funding and purchasing a wide range of health service for the region, through 413 contracts. These contracts include primary care, aged residential care, dental services, pharmaceuticals, mental health services, laboratory services and homebased support services. The DHB has a strong focus on improving Māori health. The DHB will receive $706 million during 2015/2016 to fund these activities.

The BOPDHB has just under 3,000 fulltime and part-time staff; these include nurses, support service staff and just over 300 specialists and doctors. The Governance Board has 11 members, including the chairperson, who represent the people of the region.

Hello at Katikati Medical Centre and all concerned. Sharyn and Allen Wallace are just now recovering from the effects of Covid. We would like to thank all the team at KMC for the very good treatment we received in a very awkward situation, particularly the nurses and Dr Hielke Renkema and Dr Laurens Klopper for the energetic support and confidence extended to us. Sharyn is a COPD patient and Allen experienced a very painful skeletal form of the disease all made easier by your support. We would also like to thank the St John Ambulance staff during the two urgent trips to the Tauranga Hospital. Also the KMC Pharmacy staff particularly Andrew for his support and help. The staff at Tauranga Hospital were amazing during Allen’s four day stay and once again gave utmost support and confidence in the process backed up by very good doctors and nurses including Dr Pierre De Villiers and too many nurses Kate, Rebecca, Sophie, Julia to name. We have no way to name or repay the people involved but wish all concerned to know you are all doing a fantastic job we have nothing but good words for you. From an old couple, we are both 75 years old, we remain eternally grateful. All the best and we wish you success in all you do. Kind regards Allen and Sharyn Wallace.
I aswell as my family are beyond grateful for Cathy in the maternity ward, she made me and my family comfortable she deserves the world. Thankyou for delivering my beautiful son safely into the world, thankyou for caring for me and going above and beyond for me and my children. I will forever be in dept to you for your professionalism and knowledge, care and so much more. Best wishes to all the lovely ladies who also cared for me in the post natal unit. Kindest regards Much love from Lukiah-jay.
My last booked in appointment to see my surgeon was a 2 hour wait for a 15min appointment... where I felt like I wasn't wanted or listened too - they only seemed to see me so they could say they were "trying" but didn't care. When you call up to ask a basic question it takes 3 times of calling just to get put through to a person, coz even there automated service is useless. Then when you finally get to talk to someone either a they won't give you an answer b say you need to talk to a different person but they can't put you through because of there incompatence cthe person you need to speak to seems to be constantly on holiday and know is covering said person so no one can help. 7 years living in constant pain, 3 years of that through the hospital and still waiting for surgery. Is this what the hospital calls duty of care?
My dad has just spent 3 weeks in the stroke rehab unit and was very well taken care of . He was shown a lot of kindness and respect during a difficult time. My only complaint is that they lost his hearing aid and his bottom teeth. How does that happen. Not having a hearing aid makes you very isolated and missing teeth for a man who likes to take care of himself is embarrassing. It still matters when you are 89.
Unless u are blue from not being able to breath, bleeding out or coughing don't bother going to this hospital waited hours for my 2 1/2 year old to be seen while they let every one else in and out b4 him. They didn't check nothing... no vitals check nothing very appalling manners from the nurses who refused to talk to me when I wanted to walk out after feeling like we didn't belong and no sympathy for any one and there symptons/situations at all
The care I received from ambulance staff and the staff at Tauranga hospital was amazing. Naturally I was feeling quite anxious but the staff made me feel comfortable and at ease making a stressful situation relatively stress free. Thank you
They are so rude and assume things , only a few nurses have real empathy otherwise they are cold and clinical ...it pays to always check your paper work as there are so many lies on mine and I had a car accident less then year ago they have put six years and they mis understand your communication and write down something totally different . I hadn't even got my results for biopsy even three weeks later I had to demand them , but I said that I'm in hospital now be aide my surgery went bad and I may aswell have them here and I don't have to proove who I am , I've got no identification because I came in as emergency case ... And of course I had no toilet bag I didn't plan on being admitted after a bad surgery that was beyond my control.
Can't speak highly enough of the care my husband had and continues to have as an out patient after being admitted with acute renal failure. The entire teams from admission to discharge were fabulous, both to him and for keeping me informed. The hospital was incredibly busy in these covid times and the staff were run off their feet but they were unfailingly polite and professional. 5 stars guys!!!!!!
What an amazing first time experience in a new country giving birth for the second time. I was so happy to receive the best care from the maternity ward. The nurses were all very positive, helpful and caring. They assisted me in a dignified manner from before I went into theater for my c-section right through to the last day in the ward. I could distinctly tell the difference between my first birth experience and my second one and by far this was the best experience! Thank you for making me feel so special and for showing me that there are truly people out there who are passionate about what they do. I appreciate you!! I do however feel that the food offered to patients was not as nutritious as I would have thought it would be, especially for breastfeeding moms. Perhaps this could be improved a bit. Hospital food is generally not meant to be very tasty, but I do believe it should be nutritious at least.
Took my daughter to ED waited over 6 hours, asked how much longer we'd have to wait, a very rude Male nurse told us only 2 Drs on & there were more serious cases than hers, she had fallen & hit her head on concrete! After that a nicer Nurse came to waiting room to advise there would be a further 4 hour wait! Very short staffed for a growing City.
