We had sushi set and Teriyaki beef set. All the set menu comes with a small udon noodle & miso soup. Not bad at all. it was well presented so we were satisfied for quick dinner. Although only the kingfish sushi wasn't that fresh that's why we are giving 4 stars. The Teriyaki beef was more than standard. but the house sake was too strong as not matched with the food and we couldn't get any table water. We should've got some white wine! Enjoyed!: xX
We were actually happy with the food. The miso soup was pretty standard but the agedashi tofu was a welcome surprise. The braised tofu was very nice with its side salad in wasabi mayo dressing. We were least impressed with the spicy raw tuna roll which wasn't spicy and just didn't taste much in general. : The matcha mochi balls with vanilla ice cream was nice! The only down side was the wait staff during our visit didn't look too happy with her job. I guess it's her last hour of shift because we came in for dinner time. Or maybe it's just been a long day. Sadly we didn't receive one smile, it was hard to get any drinking water and the bill. We'll consider takeaway for future orders for sure.
Awesome casual Japanese restaurant directly opposite my Redfern Airbnb. We ordered a variety of dishes as a dinner for three and we were not disappointed. Great spot, highly recommended.
The food was amazing and had great value, was blown away by the great serving sizes. All in all, 10/10 would definitely eat here again!
Low in price and high in quality. Fantastic authentic Japanese food and drinks with friendly and fast service. There’s an extensive menu with a diverse range of options catering for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters. Expect sushi, udon, wagyu, curries, sashimi, gyoza and some very tasty bento box options. There is a selection of Japanese beers the matcha IPA comes highly recommended, sake and local wines, as well as a few delicious Japanese desert dishes. Tanya has become one of my favourite restaurants in the area!
Located in Redfern, this is a typical small Japanese restaurant with a nice, cosy atmosphere. The service is promt and efficient, the staff is friendly and customer focused The Menu is extensive, soft drinks as well alcoholic drinks Sake, Beer are available. The food is freshly prepared, well presented and tasty, and the prices are reasonable. In all, a nice place to visit when looking for a nice authentic Japanese meal.
Disappointing. Never have I had kakuni pork Japanese braised pork belly so lean and hard. Portions may be generous but really not much fat on the so called pork BELLY! Kakuni pork is usually well balanced with fat and meat almost falling apart. It should melt in your mouth! Friend had the wagyu beef and all of us debated if it was actual beef. It did look more like veal since it looked really pale and lacked a “beefy” taste. We ordered a variety - wagyu beef, kitsune pork, sashimi, nigiri sushi, tempura udon set, eel set … starters - karrage, gyoza, soft shell crab and edamame. Good place for happy hour drinks - stick to the Japanese beer. Don’t bother about the sake or mains. Starters are still mediocre. Do not recommend if you had actually tasted actual and proper Japanese cuisine.
Great little Japanese restaurant in Redfern. Good sized portions, fresh seafood. I recommend anything off the menu. Pre booking needed Friday and Saturday nights.Recommended dishesMix Sashimi, Edamame, Salmon Dinner Set, Tempura Udon, Wagyu Steak, Sushi Set, Gyoza, Miso Soup, Chicken Katsu, Teriyaki Salmon Set
This place used to be amazing, but the original owners sold it, and it's just not the same anymore. They've added some weird dishes like the king pork cutlet pictured. This is the strangest Japanese dish I've had. Not sure what the sauce was, but it's sweet and they put parmesan on it ?!, and the salad had sweet dressing and I think tiny bits of mango. The whole thing was too sweet, and the parmesan was just odd. The classic items chicken katsu, gyōza and miso soup are OK but not quite as good as they once were. It's gone from truly excellent to just average. Having said that, the staff are excellent, and the presentation is impressive.
The food here is good. But it’s not really a chilled evening place. The service is abrupt - just on the edge of impolite. Should you dare arrive anytime after 7.30pm you’ll be hounded every 2-3 minutes to make your order as the kitchen closes at 8.30pm on the dot. Twice when I’ve been here the floor has been swept and chairs been put up for the night while I’m finishing my main! If you eat dinner at 5-6pm, this is a great place. If you’re looking for a relaxed evening with a leisurely dinner and drinks in a cool suburb, this ain’t it sadly
