Love the name of this place. There is a minimum spend here $30 or a Bowl plus tea or dessert. Modern, Slick decor. Love the presentation of the bowl. Simple menu but the food is tasty. We did not have time to try the dessert but definitely make another trip to this restaurant.
Carefully curated menu and very nice homey Japanese restaurant located in Redfern. The moment we enter the restaurant, we are greeted by very welcoming people and even the chefs are the one serving the food on your table. This is Japanese hospitality at it’s best! Food is absolutely delicious, will definitely come back and bring my friends in!
Small Japanese cafe with a select menu and teas, famous for its rice bowls. We had the wagyu and tonkatau bowl - definitely recommend the latter as the katsu was super crispy and was paired with a delicious sauce. We also had the matcha tiramisu which was delicious. The seating is very limited so we had to register on a waiting list.
Great food in big portion. The omelette on top of unagi hitsumabushi was an interesting approach. Price is fair but there is a minimum spending of $30 per person, which means you have to order a drink or desert to go with the meal.
Wagyu rice is really small portion, not worth the value at all! So, had to order another Tonkatsu rice. Tonkatsu meat is too overcooked and dry, but omelette was PERFECT! Tea was okay, but too pricey. Dessert was great, the “mochi”, love it! Only the dessert is worth for me to come back for. Waiter and waitress can’t communicate well in English, and short changed me even after I’m trying to teach him the maths and telling him to use the calculator! Overall, dining experience was so-so for the price that we are paying. My partner claimed that this place was so much better before this the owner used to be there looking after the restaurant.
Very close to Redfern station for those who want to get around via PT. We ordered the wagyu bowl and tonkatsu with the matching tea's. Wagyu bowl taste wise was very good and balanced with appropriate amounts of sauce and wasabi. Thin slices of wagyu were tasteful and not too chewy. Portion size was a bit of a let down compared to pricing but not too bad. 80% rice 20% meat split. Tonkatsu bowl had beautifully fried breading and a delicious Japanese style omelette below. Meat however was dry and overcooked somehow despite the breading being done perfectly. Good portion and worth pricing, if only meat was not overly done. Matching tea's were good and helped with the heavy tonkatsu and the stronger flavours of the wagyu bowl. Also ordered the small bottle of plum shochu. Came out as the 300ml bottle with 2 small tea cups. Questionable serving method as by itself its a very strong sweet drink, should be served on the rocks but I'm sure staff would be happy to oblige if you request for a bigger cup and ice. Overall very good eat and I do recommend if you can afford the cost. Weekend minimum spend of $30 pp* save 5% if you pay with cash instead.
Turns out when you can make a few dishes to absolute perfection, why would you need 100 other items on the menu. Everything is delicious especially the eel hitsumabushi and the wagyu bowl. The mochi and herb jelly with soy powder and the end was the icing on the cake. Yeah you might run out of new options after a few visits but you will come over and over again for this menu.
I've been waiting to go here for 4 years and I was everything I imagined. I arrived 10mins before dinner opening and it was already gathering people. The best is hands down the matcha tiramisu, I ate way more than my half. Presentation is beautiful with very reasonable pricingFood: 5/5
Even though we waited an hour to get a seat and I got told they don’t do bookings which really tempted me to give it four star, the food and service was exceptional. I still really miss the matcha tiramisu, one of the best desserts I have ever had. I’m also not a huge dessert person but I love matcha, so it’s shockingly good. Definitely recommend matcha lovers to give this a try.
Delicious! Small menu but everything on it is super tasty. I didn't expect to be impressed by rice bowls very much, but this place is delicious!
