If you are looking for authentic quality Chinese food in North Brisbane, look no further. This place offers great food. Plate size is generous. Ambience is great as it caters for a more fine-dining feel. Highly recommend the crispy-skin chicken and their seafood dishes. Price-wise it is a tad more expensive than your standard Chinese restaurant but you pay for the dining experience and also the food quality. Shout out to Angela for looking after us, making a very enjoyable dining experience.
We went to Taigum Gardens for dinner for the first time on Saturday night. When I went in it reminded me of Chinese restaurants from my childhood. They had a watercolour painting of flowers painted by a guy I learnt watercolours from, traditionally set up tables with candle centrepieces and a lay Susan, a beautiful fish tank and a traditional bar set up. We went for 2 seafood dishes with a noodle dish as a base. Combination chow mein: Very generous meal with a noodle base topped with a combination of bbq pork, big prawns, chicken and a mix of vegetables. Good flavour and good amount to coat the noodles. The meat had been tenderised typical of Chinese restaurants. Salt and pepper king prawns: We went to this restaurant because of the reviews for salt and pepper king prawns. I couldn’t see a picture of this dish online. The dish I was looking for was something similar I had a restaurant called New Chung Shan at Chermside which had closed a few years back because the owners retired. It had full king prawns with shells that were fried and then coated with a salt and pepper. This dish had the shells and heads removed with the prawns deveined and covered in a very light flour coating with a very gentle flavour. Diced capsicum and onions were the base. The flavour of the salt and pepper could have been slightly stronger. Ginger and Shallot Coral Trout: I’m a big fan of this dish. The sauce coated the fish fillets all the way through and was a very deep flavour that balanced the fish well. I usually go for a full coral trout when having this dish but they only had fillets. Deep fried ice cream: A flash back to my childhood. Coated and fried ice cream that came out on a icy smoke bowl which added to the atmosphere. My wife and daughter both got a flower each which was a very cute touch. I really enjoyed the experience here. The food was classic old school Chinese food. The price was a touch high but they do try to provide an experience that’s different to what you normally find in restaurants these days. Our waiter was pretty cool and did a good job. Super tall with a funky haircut.
The quality of food and service here is on par with the inner city Chinese restaurants. Although it's a little pricier than the run of the mill suburban Chinese restaurant it's well worth it for a nice dinner out.
Excellent service. Lovely food. Paid a bit more but thought it was worth it.
I took a friend to celebrate his birthday last night because his favorite food is Chinese. We were thoroughly impressed with the superior service and friendliness of the staff. The owner went over and above in her attempts to ensure that our every need and desire was catered to. We started with Chicken and Corn Soup as well as Spring Rolls. This in itself would have been sufficient. The portions were more than ample. Then we feasted on Beef and Black Bean and Garlic Chicken with Mushrooms prepared especially for my friend. I'm sure dessert would have been tantalizing as well had we partaken, but by this time we were completely satisfied with the entire meal. Thank you again for your wonderful hospitality Taigum. The year of celebration - 1956. The manager, and my friend and I, were all born in the same year.
Great food and service. Each dish is very pricy, but very good portions, very worth for groups of people. The food were all very nice, and some of the best I've had so far. Service was also really great, and the staff was extremely nice. Would eat again.
Has gone downhill. Used to get takeaway from here whenever in the mood for Chinese. Something changed during COVID where the quality dropped. Decided to give them another go tonight and to say we are disappointed is an understatement. The cooking was terrible. Honey king prawns batter uncooked on the inside and prawns smelled a bit too fishy. Chicken and cashews bland and chicken was overcooked. They must have changed the chef but either way we won't be returning.
I highly recommend Taigum Gardens for all occasions, from date night to family birthdays. The service from all staff was excellent and super friendly. We were given excellent recommendations for food, drinks and desserts that were exceptional once brought to the table. Awesome-sized portions that filled you up, and the desserts were so exciting! I highly recommend trying the deep fried ice cream or a flaming coffee if you are seeking a unique dining experience. Overall, this restaurant is definitely worth the money for excellent food and service and I will certainly be visiting again. Thank you so much!
We have been coming here for years and the food and atmosphere has always been great. However, a few years ago we had a bad experience with prawns put into the food of two people with shellfish allergies. They were apologetic but nevertheless it was very careless of them. Fast forward to tonight, we went back again after a long hiatus. Again, when placing our order, we explained about the shellfish allergy and it was like we flicked a switch or something. Angela's attitude turned immediately to rudeness. Why i dont know. We asked for water. She brought a jug to the table and poured it into my glass so fast that it spilled all over me and the table. Wrong dish brought out. She then proceeded to argue with me about what i ordered. Unbelievable. She very grudgingly took the wrong dish away but returned later with again the wrong dish. Not worth arguing over. Made our whole party feel uncomfortable. The young waitress was a blessing though. Kind, friendly and a credit to this place. We will not ever come back here and i would not recommend Taigum Gardens Chinese Restaurant to anyone. Rude and overpriced.
We celebrated our daughters 21st Birthday at Taigum Gardens and had the most wonderful evening experience . We were greeted warmly by expert staff who catered to our large group with a sumptuous banquet of deliciously prepared and exquisite meals all presented with a visual splendour. The beautiful ambience of the restaurant is a true reflection of the joyful staff who kindly and generously share their incredible skills in the art of fine dining. We are so happy and grateful for being treated to this truly remarkable experience and cannot wait to return for more,
