First day of school 02/OCT/2023, I was discriminated against by a group of older women. To be specific, a group of women wearing headscarves. They're a disgrace to their religion.nnI was sitting in the lounge area, outside the Kiwi Cafe. In one of the single chairs, that sits in pairs, facing the Library. With the coffee table and two bigger lounges on both sides, in front of me; And another pair of single chairs, opposite of me.nnI had my earphones in, sun glasses on; I was reading my book and minding my own business.nnWhile reading, a group of ladies approached and settled down in the main lounge chairs.nnAs I continued to read my book and keep to myself, one of the ladies grabbed the chair next to me, and proceeded to move it closer to her friends, sitting in the two big couches in front of me. In doing so, she moved the chair directly in front of me, ostracizing me from the lounge area that I was sitting at.nnI was left, sitting alone by myself in the middle of the cafeteria lounge.nnI don't know why they felt the need to Ostracise me, when I had not spoken a word to them; and was minding my own business. I couldn't hear them, because of my music. I wasn't doing anything, but sitting there, reading my book.nnFeeling insecure from being Ostracised and deliberately discriminated against, I went back to class, to try and calm down.nnI sat at my desk, on the verge of a mental breakdown. Wrote a note to leave for the teacher, while trying to not break down in tears and left class.nnI had social anxiety at the time, and didn't do well in public.nnSo it's especially hard when those women ostracised me, from the lounge I was sitting at, when I didn't do anything wrongnnTafe contacted me a month later to resolve the issue, but by then the damage had already been done.nnI had already quit the course, was mentally back to where I was before I started to go therapy 12 months of therapy lost, and just wanted to move on with my life and get back to focusing on what was important. My mental health.nnBy then I simply asked Tafe to do something about it, to ensure that what I experienced, never happens to anyone else in the future. Whether they did something about or not, I'll never know.
Gorgeous campus, all of the staff are wonderful and helpful.nThe Cafe food and staff are incredible.nVery easy to find your way around the well maintained campus.nLove studying here!
The childcare course online is not efficient. There are a lot of assessments. The staff told me that I must study 280 hours at the placement. However, it has been changed later on. Now they told me that I must study 336 hours. How can I deal with 56 hours per semester at my placement for just the first semester. I mean that I will need to work as a volunteer 2 days per week or more. This really put me in delema.
I studied here back in 2011 and it was an awful experience. They didn’t help me or support me at all despite having special needs and had a crisis happen in my life. The other students I dealt with were immature school leavers who didn’t make things easy for and the staff were awful and all they did was crushed my dreams. Avoid at all costs as these guys only care about money and nothing else
I have had a terrible time as a student here. I did a year and a half here in cert 4 vet nursing. I got to 230 hours in a clinic and the clinic they sent me to fired me. The voc placement teacher at the time didn't find me a new clinic and made out that he had done so ; as a result I failed with 10 hours voc placement to go. He didn't sign any of my paperwork in the voc placement book which he took 6 months to even give to me despite it being in the office he worked in; and then it later turned out that he placed me at a clinic for a trial day without even letting the management know I was going to be there. I had a personal crisis involving a family member who was critically ill, and despite having a doctors certificate stating that as the next of kin and health directive and he needed me to help him; they did not take this into consideration either. They did not investigate my complaints about this teacher, and I know this because it only took me an hour to get the information together to press on with a further complaint; and I felt reluctant to share additional information with them because he had gossiped about me to other students who then asked me what he was talking about. If I'd have known that it was going to be a waste of time and money with nothing to receive in return, I'd have spent my time with my dying relative creating memories. Instead I chose not to do anything with him because I was obligated to tafe work which resulted in nothing. 7 months of condescending teachers followed by breaches of confidentiality and behaviour that are in direct breach of their policy which promises the infrastructure needed to succeed. They're lucky I can't give them 1/10th of a star.n* Update on the laughable complaint system *nI made a complaint to the lead staff member of the animal science department, I then had an internal inquiry where I was directed twice to two other tafe staff members, then I had an 'independent review' which was conducted by the Gold Coast branch of tafe Because they're apparently a separate division of tafe. Of course they're all in agreeance with each other. Lots of patting themselves on the back, avoidance. A tower of obvious bias.nNext step , the ombudsman and the A.C.C.C
