Honesty, professionalism, respect, a sense of humour and very importantly, a caring attitude are the core principles of Stuart Highway Auto's. An extensive business history sites many examples of mutual reward felt by customers and staff of Stuart Highway Auto's, none more powerful than the one our business founders have passed on to guide this business into the future. Sharing this history is not only an honour but it will help you understand why we are here. Back in 1975 the majority of road to Alice Springs from Adelaide was unsealed, heavily used and disastrous for the ill prepared. This story is one such story. IMAGINE THIS SCENE: A vehicle with a roofrack, overloaded with what appeared to be the occupants entire worldy possesions, the boot so laden the rear bumper only just cleared the road, and inside is mum, dad and three small, very young, children.
Dad approaches (Alan and Ian), our business founders. His vehicle is in need of repair, mutual agreement to repair is made and designated repairs were carried out professionally and efficiently. Whilst repairing a much more serious fault is reported to the owner. The owner appeared to be extremely cauious before committing himself financially. As previous this repair was performed. Alan and Ian decided to charge trade price resulting with an account of $170. The traveller went to his vehicle and begun searching, (with the family' help), through what appeared to be money boxes. He came back and paid $170 (made up mainly of coins).
Alan and Ian asked where they were headed and they were off to Darwin to start a new life. He was promised a job if he got himself there by Monday. Ian and Alan looked at one another and (as if they knew what the other was thinking), handed the money, (coins and all), back to the traveller which he refused at first. They added $50 and said this is not for charity it is for the children. You will have to pay us back when you get your job. The traveller resisted but knew he really did need the money and conceeded by accepting the offer and promised to pay them back. The traveller drove off and Alan and Ian looked at one another and admitted they were both idiots. It felt good helping and they seemed like a nice family and besides, Alan and Ian were doing ok, so if they come back, great, if not, life lesson.
Months later, both Alan and Ian had been to lunch, on there return to work, were greeted with a carton of beer and an envelope containing money and a short note, which read. Thankyou very, very much. Your caring attitude has changed our lives. I got the job, my children are happy at school, our marriage has never been stronger our lives are blessed. We just put a deposit on our very first home. We owe you everything. We will never forget your kindness.
Alan and Ian looked like they were about to cry. They had both convinced themselves they would never see that money again. Wow! what an experience! That feeling is Stuart Highway Auto's. WE CARE!
