4.0 STARS Went to Mad Hatter's G&Tea Party with friends on a Saturday afternoon. The tea was definitely great, we enjoyed it immensely but the bites could have been a little bit better. Shout out to the Queen of and Cheshire .
Such a playful bar and restaurant! Great decor and set up especially the secret door, “find the book” they say. Very interesting and innovative way to access the hidden lounge bar. Good food and good company makes a perfect match and state of grace caters for it!
What a night!! Came here with my sisters on the weekend and had an absolute ball. The cocktails were fantastic and food was great. They moved locations but it’s still just as good. I love the antique interior it’s like stepping into Europe!
State of Grace has a dark and moody vibe in the basement. The secret entrance via the bookshelf is beautifully executed and a brief but wonderful introduction to the world below. Downstairs is a bar and an eclectic mix of antique furniture and wall ornaments. It looks a bit like an episode of Hoarders. What’s most important is the service was friendly and the drinks were cold.
Little gem in the middle of the city! We went to the rooftop and I know there is more hidden places there but been up there was really lovely! The music, the atmosphere and the food was amazing!! The decoration is great too, definitely an Instagramable place
The main bar has fun and quirky decor in an old building with 2 gorgeous chandelier that dominate the space. For such a cavernous room the music didn’t really fill the space and was a bit low energy - might be different with the suit crowd during the week. Wine list a bit average. Downstairs in the warm and cosy hidden basement the music fills the room along with ambient chatter. The bar is snug with big arms chars like the kind you would have next to a fire in the smoking room; patrons relax escaped and tucked away from the world outside. Extensive cocktail list and tourist friendly less locals but still a vibe.
we had not made a reservation and they fortunately had a free table. enjoyed the drinks and lovely ambience. ordering drinks were at our fingertips via the QR code which made it very easy no more lining up at the bar. they also served food upstairs but we were specifically there for drinks.
Literally the most gorgeous view! Thursday evening with minimal customers, drinks and food were delicious and the vibe was just perfect, would absolutely recommend! Book a table if you’re unsure about walk-in availability :
if only looking at the menu and after having the foods, I could say everything is overpriced, however the environment gave me an extremely nice impression. I don't usually taking all the photos around a restaurant but for this place I took quite a lot- if you have eyes for retro aesthetic, come after peak hours or before peak hours to appreciate what they have on different walls, while having a few snacks or late dinner. Also this place appeared in Utopia S2e4 where Tony and Jim sat, they just moved however it's the same brand
The food was goodish but everything else not so much. We had booked table in restaurant Saturday 1pm for 4 of us, upon arrival were directed to the rooftop bar as restaurant was closed due to a lack of staff. OK so rooftop bar was cold and the waitperson asked if we would like heater on, yes please. She didn't turn it on. We asked another two staff members to turn heater on, neither of them did. We had to order using table app however not all items listed in restaurant menu were available on app. Also asked for coffee and were told that coffee wasn't available seriously Melbourne winter, outdoor dining no coffee!!. The rooftop bar area hosts a Mad Hatters tea party Saturday afternoons and all the staff seemed focused on this and we were definitely an afterthought. Had to ask for side plates to share entrees we ordered and we also asked for water which we never got. The entrees, warm olives, arancici and croquettes were delicious while the mains, gnochi with mushroom sauce were delicious however two Porterhouse steaks were chewy and fatty and interestingly on the physical menu they were priced at $38 while on app price was $42 and the fish barramundi was cold. The sides, rocket salad and fries were good. We didn't try dessert as we were all dying for a coffee so we had to leave to get one however on way out when we were asked if we had enjoyed our meal I said disappointing could not get coffee and he responded in surprise that they did coffee and offered to make it for us but we decided to go elsewhere. So our experience at State of Grace was not what we were expecting.
