St James railway station is a heritage-listed[1] underground commuter rail station that is located on the City Circle, at the northern end of Hyde Park in the Sydney central business district of New South Wales, Australia. It is served by Sydney Trains' T2 Inner West & Leppington Line, T3 Bankstown Line and T8 Airport & South Line services. It is named after the nearby St James' Church. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.[4]
One of the major local train station in Sydney,Australia. This station is always full of passengers.
Vintage underground railway station with lots of paraphernalia and old time relics on display.nnIn the past, it was one of those stations I remember alighting when I went on school excursions.nnOnly drawback of going there last Saturday was that there was a lot of trackwork going on there and throughout the City Circle and North Shore lines. Not to mention the toilets were closed.nnOtherwise, this station along with Museum Station would make a great tourist attraction for anyone interested in trains and things related to the railways or in local history in general.
One of the really worthwhile train stations to travel through when visiting Sydney or a very pleasant one when you live in Sydney. Has got a legendary, historic look to it with the unchanged traditional tiling, stairs, and has some classic art and paraphernalia from the time. Really is a journey back in time. Various lines go through here which are the T1, T2, T3, T8 and buses outside the station as well. Located next to the ever-pleasant Hyde Park. Has a dairy inside and a small café from memory. Only complaints are it’s quite a long walk in, and bit of a walk between platforms. With so many lines on just the two platforms it can take a minute to find which one to go for your stop. But it deserves a 4.6 due to its vintage charm, and timeless relics.
This railway station is dotted with historical stories about its construction. You’ll find photos and items along each platform and between the platforms where the un-under tunnels are located. Did you know that the station was designated an air raid shelter during World War II? If you have some time to spare, this station is worth exploring - rail bosses have created a mini museum.
