I Tried the Yunan noodles with fish fillets and rice bowl with chicken & beans. Portion size is very small and the taste is average. It was not as spicy as other Chinese places. I ordered sides of pork belly and ribs. Both dishes were tiny and the pork belly was almost pure fat. I had a lot of difficulty ordering since I can only speak English, however, the staff tried their best to help and they did warn me about portion size when I asked.
Amazing food in large portions at a reasonable price. Nice, friendly staff. Would definitely come back. The noodle soup is delicious and pretty big good for two if you’re not that hungry. Also, we really liked the ‘make it yourself’ thin pancakes with meat beef or pork and cucumber. They have different options of tea, if you don’t want softdrinks. Our diner shown in the pictures including tea and a coke was AUD 46 for two.
Spicy dishes are full of flavours and the other dishes we tried were all delicious. The restaurant is reasonably priced and is BYOD. I'm keen to go back to try more of the menu.
We tried some dishes of this restaurant for our recent team lunch. We ordered their barramundi fish with mapo tofu sauce, classic Yunnan rice-noodle soup, stir-fried long-beans with minced meat, spicy eggplants and stir-fried cumin beef. They're all nice dishes but the highlight are the barramundi fish and the rice-noodle soup. The ambience and service from floor staff are reasonable for casual family restaurant in Chinatown area. You can pay by credit card with surcharge added.
Probably changed ownership after the re-decoration, the food is just okay right now. Not delicious at all. The price is relatively higher than other. Consider the price and taste, wouldn’t recommend this place. Stuffs started cleaning while people did not finish their dish....the floor cleanser smile disgusting when you eating....
Really worth a visit, the pan fried vegetable dumplings are delicious. I’ll be back...
Large portions but the prices match their generosity as its a dollar or two more expensive for the same dish at other restaurants near Haymarket. The food however, is excellent. Their Mapo Tofu tastes amazing, not as spicy but the flavour is on par with Mapo Tofu in Chengdu. Easily the tastiest item on the menu. It could be spicier though. I assume if you're white you wouldn't be reading this review anyways since you can't eat spicy food but everyone else definitely should give the Mapo Tofu a try.
Extensive menu. Pricing is a bit on the high side but the dishes are large, so prepare to share with others. The rose pastry was a highlight, very flakey and lightly sweet and fragrant. Fish & pickled cabbage soup was delicious.
I'm not familiar with Yunnan cuisine at all, but after a lunch at Spring Yunnan, I am keen to try more, much more! The place is clean, modern with menu that as someone who has no idea about the Yunnan cuisine or know any Chinese, can order with ease. The service was quick and friendly and we ordered some pancakes with pork and beef with cumin, cold chicken noodle and noodle with clams. The food definitely wasn't ready-made, and took a little awhile, but the wait was definitely worth it. The crêpe-like pancakes were thin yet chewy and using it to wrap some fresh veges and the meat dish was oh so yum! The chicken noodle was also really good, just the perfect appetiser to begin a meal on a hot summer day. The clam noodles were super delicious as well with generous serving of pipis. Will definitely come back to try what looks to be the sognature dish, the noodles!
Yunnan cuisine is not that popular in Sydney comparing other chinese style. This one is very decent with comfortable atmosphere. The stick rice is so tasty. And the noodle is a must try with different flavour options.
