Second major train station in Melbourne's CBD. Regional vline and coaches start from here if you're going out of Melbourne. Regular metro services also go via Southern Cross Station. It has floating sails above the Metro train tracks, which gives it a very contemporary look. There are toilets located both on Bourke Street side and Collins street side if the station. There is a lot of very friendly V/Line staff. Several outlet shops, restaurants, and coffee shops are located upstairs at Spencer Outlet.
Southern Cross Station is a top hub with such beautiful design and more. It's one of the best stations I've ever seen and it's well sign posted to get around and more. Great staff too. They give you directions anywhere and very patient with my silly questions x
Second major station in Melbourne's CBD and the main hub for Regional Services. The station lacks decent ventilation - there can be awful diesel fumes on still days. Stores on both the upper concourse and lower concourse - mainly food stores but there is also a pharmacy, newsagents and phone store. The food is your basic fast food options. The toilets here are horrible. There are none available on the upper concourse where all Metro services depart. This is a huge design flaw. The two lots of toilets on the lower concourse outside the main VLine gates near platforms 3/4 and the ones on the way to the Coach Terminal below the Bourke Street Bridge are disgustingly smelly and dirty. Not a good advertisement for visitors to the city. The lack of bins on the Platforms mean that there is often a lot of rubbish dumped on the seats and platforms. Navigating the station is also difficult. The lifts on to the platforms are small and slow. They also seem to break down a lot. Whilst the Metro platforms have escalators from both ends, the access to Platforms 1-8 has been completely neglected. One Escalator and then a long trek down to the main concourse. The whole station lacks any character and is sterile and unattractive. No greenery and very few comforts. It is either cold and dark or stinking hot - and still drab and dark. There is a PTV Hub and Travellers Aid available.
Country trains vline and coaches commuting runs starts from here if you're going out of Melbourne, local trains still connects here and connected to the famous marvel stadium we're all experiencing with diesel trains and electric seems ok I travel and connect trains from here up to six days a week no problem, if you like to wonder out of the station there's shops, cafes, food, bar and much more, public transport buses and trams connects right outside.
Southern Cross Station Visited on 7/9/2022 It is a very contemporary design station with floating sails over the Metro train tracks. The country train track is the far end and the interstate train tracks are close to the main entrance. When new the "saiks" look great, but they look a bit tired and dirty,
Large Station, All the Regional trains and buses depart from here, lots of very friendly V/Line staff, Spencer Outlet is upstairs with many outlet shops and places to eat and get a good coffee.
This train station is always busy, day or night and probable the least amount of staff around to help , what I really don't understand how vline customer need to wait in the cold, while there is an empty train and will become the actual train towards the destination. Yet try to get in and you will be stormed with staff I wonder where they hide becuase they are not helping or proving direction .
This place is dismal. I see they tried to inject some whimsical roof over the old and drab Spencer St Station, but forgot one basic thing, cleaning. The total lack of bins means rubbish is left on all manner of objects, oak milk cartons vying for fast food soft serve containers. If the operator of this train station invest a small percentage of revenue from the immense amount of advertising then maybe it could be a half decent transport hub. Sadly regional visitors and international travelers are greeted to Melbourne with sticky residue and a smell of diesel fumes.
Deducting a star for super confusing signage. First platform 15A, then 15 B then some platform S. S for super confusing Other than that an awesome station with everything you can ask for. With super market, heaps of cafeteria, sugar station, an entire mall to the other side, places for breakfast to dinner and more than 3 tram stops on door step. Attaching pics for locker facilites.
This acts as a decent hub for both metro and regional commuters, with a supermarket, food options and some other stores. However, a couple of big negatives of this place is the air quality and lack of bins on platforms. There's many diesel trains running here at most times and due to the roof on the station, the air quality suffers drastically due to the fumes. An exhaust system is really needed to assist with this.
