everything was fresh, flavoursome + light! I decided to have a side of meatballs with the avo and am so pleased with the choice. There was a subtle cinnamony flavour and they were so soft! I need to come back to try the breakfast pasta!
The most beautiful food is cooked and served fresh here. The warm smoked eggplant salad with mint, ricotta, pomigranate etc. is an INCREDIBLE, must try flavour bomb. Service is super upbeat, and lovely. Ambiance is perfect. Best cafe in Brunswick!!
Small Axe Located in the Brunswick, Small Axe is a little, hip café with a beautiful terrace - perfect for a coffee during a sunny afternoon when the sun warms you up during a cold winter day. I was happy to see that they are serving the seasonal blend from Code Black, a tasty combination of Colombia and Rwanda : sweet, juicy, and lingering. I went for a long black and as a small but I have chosen the eggplant salad with hummus and roasted broccoli . That was a very healthy and tasty choice that went very well with the juicy long . The longer I sat down in the sun the warmer it got and I suddenly felt the need to order an affogato ! I just imagined how well the acidity of the coffee matches the sweetness and creaminess of the vanilla ice cream ! Affogato with a double shot of heavenly espresso: my imagination came true: this affogato was out of this world : the beautiful acidity of the coffee made the entire sensory sensation very juicy: MOUTHWATERING . That was a perfect treat before going back to work and finishing the week strong. … and I obviously also like the packaging and the smell of the soap . It is about the tiny little details that make the difference.
This was such a good brunch! Really nice cafe on the corner, with some outdoor and indoor seating which appeared to be doggo friendly! We had a pram with us so decided to sit inside and had good space. The staff were all super nice and service was quick and easy. We ordered 2 coffees, the famous breakfast pasta and the porchetta benedict. Food was simply fantastic. Fresh, and full of flavour. We will definitely be back to try more things from the menu!
What a great experience! Food & drinks were amazing. Great variety on the menu. But by far the best part is the customer service! So friendly, down to earth & attentive! Tina definitely needs a shout out! So upbeat & happy. Her customer service skills are best we have witnessed in years! Can’t wait to go back! #dogfriendlyRecommended dishesSardines, Small Axe Benedict
Visited on a Sunday afternoon and the service was very slow. We had to wait around 35 minutes to place our food order and had to place our drinks order twice. Staff was apologetic and even gave us a coffee on the house which was appreciated. The food was just fine. Typical brunch fare but it felt very overpriced given the wait and especially with the 15% weekend surcharge. Overall, the experience was not worth the cost time and $. May give it another shot on a weekday once the pain of waiting for service fades from memory.
Edit - have been back many many many times to Small Axe which is now decidedly one of my weekend brunch staples. My favourite dish is the chilli scramble eggs. Coffee is lush. And staff are beautifully friendly. Love this place! Nice experience at Small Axe Kitchen this weekend. Staff are vibrant and lovely. Menu is super innovative and exciting, you won't be disappointed with the variety of options. Tried the breakfast pasta which was a funky option at 9am pasta was al dente and guanciale was perfectly cooked. Purely for my taste buds I found the sauce a touch citric, but it definitely was fresh. Meatballs were moorish and rich. My partner mentioned that for his palate they were a touch sweet, but everyone has their own preferences. I'll be back to try out some more options. Thanks for the innovation guys, love it
Wonderful little piece of Brunswick. Pleasant and helpful staff, delicious L'hotdog. Can't wait to go here again!
Love small axe kitchen. We went for the third time today and did not disappoint. Food is 10/10. Fresh and flavourful. My son 8yo and I always head here on a weekday off/school holidays. Weekends it’s just too busy.
One of my absolute favourite Brunswick haunts. The food is always spectacular, the coffee is consistently top notch and the staff are genuinely wonderful. I always recommend this cafe to friends and family visiting Melbourne and it's always a hit.Food: 5/5
