The service staff were alright. Nothing amazing but nothing adverse either. The food was OK. Tried the different variations of soba which is what they are known for. It was alright but the deal breaker for me wasn't the service staff nor the food, it was the atmosphere. My wife and I were 'lucky' enough to be placed at a table that was surrounded by others from all sides. We came by around 11.30am on a Sunday and the restaurant seems to be really child friendly. There were so many young children and babies who for some reason were all screaming and yelling at the same time. I just couldn't enjoy my meal at all.
I’m giving this restaurant a 5 star for their service. Was won over by their remarkable service - the service staff was friendly and kept on refilling our drinks. That’s something you don’t get in many mid-priced restaurants in Singapore. My friend and I ordered Soba, he had Beef with Cold Soba while I had Tempura with Hot Soba. My friend is very satisfied with his meal. I enjoyed the tempura very much, though I didn’t really like the hot soba. Wished I had ordered cold soba instead. It’s both our 1st time here. I found it via Google maps as we were searching for a Japanese Dining Place at Orchard Road. The Black Sesame Ice Cream came in a big scoop and was super delish. The restaurant serves complimentary water, something that I really appreciate.
Giving this review a 5 of 5 as the team really put effort into service recovery , which alot of places brush it aside today in face of error. Me and dining partner ordered at the same time, we were among the earliest customers at 1120am but my cold soba was given by mistake to another table. We told the staff . This was rectified after some confusion with kitchen and the team apologised . I appreciate it as some restaurants will just blatantly deny. Was given one complimentary dessert as good will. Came for lunch and I ordered the cold soba with shiso , flavour was unusual . Another dish was the cold soba with grated yam , seaweed, fermented soybeans Nato, topped with quail egg, it taste better than expected.
- Ordered the Beef Nanban Soba and it was delicious but the soba tastes a little over cooked for me today. Came here few years back and it was not overcooked tho - Cold Soba was on point too even if the soba was a little over cooked. - Service was excellent and efficient
Always crowded. I had the shimbashi combin soba. Quite gd combine especially if you come just for the soba. It includes the cold and hot soba and standard tempura set. The noodle portion is quite a good amount and tasty, not too salty soup. But some parts of the noodle stick, but bit hard since the bowl is small and portion is a gd amount. Some fren have the sashimi and soba set, a gd amount of sashimi with soba and rice. A very filling lunch. Vegetarian options: There are 2 pages of vegetarian options.
Would rate this place 4.5/5 stars. We tried two different sets, and the portion was really generous. Between the chilled and warm soba, we personally found the former to be nicer. The staff also shared that their bestseller was the chilled soba. We came at 12pm on a Sunday and had to wait for about 20 mins to get a seat. Place was clean.
This is the definition of going to a Japanese restaurant for the Japanese service and not the Japanese brand. Astoundingly remarkable service is what you get here. This is the first ever time I have heard restaurant staff ask whether you have any food allergies, and by far the most efficient when it comes to drink refills. Food quality wise, the Seiru Soba is between Tokyo Soba and Reiwa Soba. While not the best compared to what Reiwa Soba has to offer, the Soba here is still plenty chewy with decent texture. Similar to Reiwa, the soba here is served on a colander which deals with the issue of soggy soba strands. Tsuyu wise, it lacks the richness and nuanced flavor that Tokyo Soba has to offer and feels a bit too overpowering but still pretty good nonetheless. Presentation here is something to point out as well, where the Tsuyu has to be poured separately on your own. Very interesting. Iced Hōjicha here is just average, not bad for the price considering you do get unlimited free refils from the excellent staff here. Interior wise, it certainly does carry the look of a high end Japanese restaurant with quite a great emphasis on the Japanese art of bamboo and woodwork. However, the tables and chairs provided do not match the vibe of the rest of the store, kind of a missed opportunity. Other than that, service is possibly the best at this price range, as elaborated earlier Summary: Come for the Soba, stay for the Japanese Service. While it may not be the best soba in town, it definitely has a lot going for it in terms of superb service and great atmosphere. In terms of overall taste, I would still recommend Tokyo Soba or Reiwa Soba but this place has been an excellent experience.
I craved for cold soba very much therefore my husband suggested this restaurant to me. The serving time was relatively long, better don't come with an empty stomach. All the food we ordered was very nice wanted to try the matcha ice cream, but it was sold out, I will come back again next time!
First and foremost, their staff were polite when they served us even though they looked overwhelmed. They serve very nice soba noodles, cold or hot. For cold, dip the soba noodles in the sauce and add a tad of garnish and wasabi - brilliant. Their set meals are pretty much worth the price I'm paying for. I had the Kaisendon set meals. The sashimi was fresh; and went great with the soba side. Top up with a desert to complete your meal! The matcha ice cream was amazingly flavourful, not overly sweet. The azuki red beans went so well with the Mochi. Would drop by again! But... you have a long queue to wait for.
2024 Jan update: Better soba and serving time! Got the dipping noodles and it was good! They also gave us Sobayu soba water to add to our soup at the end of our meal Good for a soba place but don’t expect Japanese quality soba. Taste and servings are acceptable. Overall, it’s a decent place. What I like: decent servings, taste of soba soup was superb, decent amount of toppings too, the egg was yummy What I didn’t like: -the waiting time: from being seated to serving our food Haha -Our chicken teriyaki side dish arrived almost halfway we’re done so that’s disappointing even if the order slip indicated “serve first” -noodles was not cut well 3 strands stuck together, some strands shorter than others
