Hubby surprised me with salsa lessons for my birthday- the best gift ever! Cindy is an awesome teacher. I couldn’t believe we were dancing salsa during our first session. Lessons are fun, music is great - highly recommend Salsa Viva Dance
Cindy is a fabulous Salsa teacher and I am learning new steps with each class I attend. The lessons are easy to follow and are very enjoyable. I would highly recommended this course to anyone wanting to learn Cuban Salsa. Thanks Cindy X
Very apprehensive in taking the first step to booking up, now wished I'd done it years ago. Cindy quickly ran me through some basic moves and after 45 minutes we were dancing. A great way to keep fit and the music is fantastic. Thank you Cindy again, looking forward to the next lesson.
We had our first Salsa dance lesson last night with Cindy and it was awesome! Cindy is a wonderful person, great instructor and talented dancer. Lots of fun and excited for class next week!
Do not do private lessons with Cindy. I am giving 2 stars because the group lesson I attend was good - but my private lesson was a disaster. I was over sold on what would be taught, she showed no respect for timings, she answered phones during the lesson, and over all I felt taken advantage of. I no longer go to Salsa Viva Dance. I attended a Friday "drop in" Salsa lesson and had a really fun time. So I contacted Cindy the owner to get more info about private lessons. She explained that 1 private lesson would be the equivalent of getting 4 group lessons. She also advised that I would be given an instruction sheet to practice the moves. The price was $100 for 1 hour. Expensive, but signed on. Well, what I was told on the phone was a complete oversell - we did not come close to doing 4 week’s worth of group lessons - and her attitude towards me was unprofessional beyond belief. She arrived late to the lesson, she then had to open up, turn on lights, other admin stuff that you have to do when you just arrive so we did not start to dance lesson until 12 mins after our scheduled time. This lesson cost $100 an hour - so effectively I have so far paid $20 to watch her open up the studio As far as covering course content, we then did a warm up, re-hashed the steps that were covered in the group session, then finally approx 30 after my scheduled start time I learnt my first "new" move. She then stopped the lesson to check her phone. At this time, I asked what type of search I would put into Youtube so that I can practice / copy the moves later - to which she advised that Youtube instructors would not be accurate and that I should not use it as a reference this is a straight up lie - I have since found amazing Salsa video's to help me practice. So, I then suggested that I take a video of her doing the steps so that I have "the right moves" for a reference - she advised that I was not allowed, as it would mean I would not come back for more lessons. I explained that I was not going to be able to remember all these steps after being shown once so I would need to have some sort of instruction for a reference, else how was I going to practice? I asked if could she give me the instruction sheet which she had mentioned on the phone. She produced a tiny piece of paper with a list words in Spanish and no pictures. How was this going to help me? She gave me a pen and said that I can draw my own pictures. This is far from what had been described to me on the phone. We then started to dance again and then studio land line phone rang, remember I am paying $100 an hour for this. A few minutes later she returned with a cup of water for me ?? We did some more dancing, then her mobile started ringing which she answered. By this time it was about 5:22pm and the lesson was due to finish at 5:30, so while she was outside I gathered my things to leave. She noticed me standing at the exit so ended her call, gave me a sob story about how she had to take that call, and make other calls as an instructor had cancelled so she was trying to arrange a new one. This is not cool - I paid $100 for 1 hour of tuition, so her attention should be on me, not on taking phone calls etc - out of that hour I would estimate I did at most 25 mins of dancing with her. Cindy said that she had planned to instruct me for 15 more minutes because of her late arrival, which I explained was not an option for me, the lesson had been scheduled 430 to 530, so at 530 I had to leave. I wrote a constructive e-mail explaining how I felt about all of the above. She never wrote back to me, instead she sent a text saying that she would like to schedule another private lesson with me for free. I texted her back advising that I had sent the e-mail and that I would need those things addressed prior to me returning to the studio. She never replied again via text or email. Attached is a photo of the "reference material" she provided me. Seemingly I was to use this to practice the moves.
This place has been saved for a few years and finally joined the first Salsa class last night. So much fun and couldn’t feel the time. All ppl are beginners and pretty nice group of ppl. Cindy is really a nice instructor. Looking forward to keeping going here!!
We love dance classes at Salsa Viva Dance. It is an intimate studio with smaller class sizes and a high teacher studio ratio. We have been doing the beginner courses for about 3 months. Cindy is very patient and offers great instruction. Great for singles or couples, with opportunities for social dancing to consolidate learning and for a fun night out. We especially enjoyed the band night :
