Came for a work party in the function room. View was magnificent. Room was nice but quite bare. Service overall was good, but they took the wine glasses away from the tables without asking if people would like a drink or something different to what they already drinking. They also stopped serving cocktails even though a set amount had been paid for, which the limit hadn't been reached yet. Food at our table was quite tasty but a few other tables had the same dishes which came out dry and overcooked. Might be worth trying again for dinner in the restaurant section with a much smaller group to see if it's better then.

Promise you the world and don't deliver. We had our wedding with these guys in November and were asked for every detail to be planned out for them but then they threw all of our requests out of the window because the event manager didn't know the space and the chef decided to go with what he though instead of what we asked for.. The problem started when our event manager who we initially delt with went on maternity leave and we got a new event manager overseeing our wedding who just said yes without knowing the space and was clearly under trained for the role. The venue wasn't set up as agreed at all, with a whole section missing, the owner blamed the "lack of waiting experience of her event manager" after the fact, when questioned... if you dont employ properly trained people for the job then that's not our fault. Photo station and bonbonierre tables were split out instead of being together as was my request, despite a numerous floor plan visits and emails where my ideas were all okayed. I always asked for best advice and was not at all demanding. Basically they said yes to everything and instead of measuring to see if it would fit, they found out on the day it "wouldn't work!" And just shoved stuff where they wanted. I was told that I had come and measured up the tables so it was my fault for not measuring properly! Spectacularly untrue - i assumed your event manager knew your space and If I had of thought there was a question over whether the floor plan would work I would have measured it, but again, I assumed your event manager knew what she was talking about. I work in events so I know what her job is and she didnt do it. They put the gift table right by the front door instead of where it was agreed and lots of our guests didn't feel comfortable leaving cards and presents there as anyone could have walked into the venue and taken them. This resulted in many phone calls to us the next day explaining why there was no gifts left from our guests. The cake wasn't cut as requested as the chef didn't feel it was required on the day... we request all 3 layers be cut as there were 3 flavours that told a story for my husband and I. We got home the next day to find a whole uncut tier in our fridge. When we questioned the venue about all of this, they explained that the chef didn't feel like he needed to cut all of the cake.... interesting choice given how many emails were required from Sails on the Bay about our specific cake preferences.. The cake was not bagged for guests as promised by the venue and instead cake bags were thrown at guests for them to bag themselves! What? We approached the venue after our wedding regarding all of these issued and were given nothing but excuses about the lack of experience of the event person and no responsibility taken for the total disaster that was the layout of our wedding versus what was finalised on their "FINAL FLOOR PLAN" issued to us. I haven't mentioned everything that went wrong here, so you can imagine how many errors there were on our night. We chose to ignore these issues on the night as we didnt want to ruin our day by the venues incompetencies. Upon revisiting these issues with the owner, we were met with an emotional email full of excuses and no willingness to show any remorse or even ownership of the errors made by her employing underqualified staff. We chose to upgrade our initial booking from the event room to the main restaurant to create more space for our floor plan - that was an additional $3000 down the drain. When an advertised 120 seater restaurant couldn't work a seating plan for 65 people into the venue you know there are problems with the event planner... It's such a shame they dont honor the promises they make to their clients or follow the agreed conditions as issued on their Final Detail sheet. BIG SHAME Sails on the Bay... WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Three weeks ago, we hosted our daughter's wedding ceremony and reception at Sails. From the outset, they were professional, caring and completely organised. They listened carefully to all our requirements and met them without exception. We were thrilled with food, drinks, service and ambiance. Congratulations and many thanks to the team. We cannot recommend this venue highly enough as we have had a constant stream of congratulations from all our guests over the last couple of weeks.

It is a very nice venue as it is on the Elwood beach. The sharing plate duck pork chicken terrine is delicious. The main which is the crispy skin snappy is all I want I love the the strawberry eclair. A must visit restaurant in Melbourne.
