Royal Wellington Golf Club rated 4-1/2 stars: As one of New Zealand's oldest courses, and to date one of its only two "Royals", Heretaunga provides a very pleasant and not too stressful golfing environment. At nearly 6,900 yards from the back-tees, the course not only provides a very good test, but includes a few nicely elevated tee-boxes as well.

Great course, visitors welcomed when playing with members. Make sure that you allow some time to enjoy the quality food and beverage selection after the game

Challenging layout which makes good use of the natural habitat, however, the quality of the course is far below the standard expected for $150 a round for NZ affiliated golfers, with poor fairways which have significant areas with no grass, the areas surrounding the greens not kept to a high standard and the greens themselves slow. Overall poor value for money with better options available in the region

Wellington’s best golfing experience .... a mix of picturesque parkland and riverbed, this place is both magical and challenging..... but, there’s more .... the membership is both strong and civilised, the clubhouse oozes history and the staff are friendly and efficient. Several groups play during the week which welcome visitors.

The course is usually in an excellent standard by currently suffering from various issues leaving many fairways bare and dry in places.
