Rosso Antico Pizza Bar

About

Taking Italian food back to its original traditional roots.

Story

Growing up, food was always what brought family and friends together. With Rosso Antico Pizza Bar I want to share what I had growing up. My dream is to bring the old traditional style of Italian cooking back to the table.

Ended up at this spot randomly on a Friday night. Newtown has a lot of gems and this is definitely one of them! Important to say that I’ve had some amazing pizzas from the time when I was living in NYC. With that being said, this is some of the best pizza I’ve had in Sydney. The crust and dough was so fluffy and light yet somehow filling. We got the El Diablo which was spicy and perfect for a meat lover. My wife ordered the pizza with potatoes which I was really doubting but I was a believer once I tried it. They had a decent wine selection as well. PS- we had some leftovers of the potato pizza which was perfect for breakfast the next day with eggs.
Recently had Italian food cravings. So we popped in for a pizza and the calamari. Both great dishes. Also there bread was divine that we ordered seconds. If your into big bread like crusts. You’ll be happy with what comes out!
This place has the best Italian pizza I've ever tried. Highly Recommend for fluffy and delicious pizza that will make you keep coming back for more.
The ingredients were high quality and fresh. The pizza was also made excellently, quickly arriving at the table. It had a beautiful puffy outside and crispy base. Highly recommend.
Pizza was ok. The dough was a bit soggy. Had higher expectations based on recommendations and the reviews. Have had tastier pizza elsewhere in Newtown. Friendly staff.
Friday night no booking. This place was pumping! Great vibe - the floor manager maybe owner Oswaldo - if I got it right got us seated at the bar. Service quick. Pizza - unbelievable. Light dough - flavoursome toppings - pretty cheap pricing compared to many others at the moment in the market. They seemed under staffed & under the pump - yet the staff & specially Oswaldo were real polite & smiling when service. Definately would be back & strongly recommend - giving them a go once or many more times Good job people
Pizza that bases itself off the napoletana experience but at least for me the execution fell short. There's some 1 and 2 reviews here bagged out by the 5 star reviewers who claim this is how pizza is meant to be and those 5 star reviewers miss on a couple of important points. Yes, cooking for 90s in a blistering hot oven will give you char but in my case it was a few seconds too far, the point where char which gives a tiny bit of bitterness becomes burnt food - overcooked large black sections that are literally overcoming your palate with ash - that's not napoletana, thats you overcooking and burning your cornicione. It must be free from burns to truly be napoletana the AVPN standard states this clearly as well. Even between two pizzas the char vs burn ratio is different on my table, and looking at other tables it's the same, in the heat of service the inconsistency between pizzas by seconds of cooking is literally the difference between a good crust and a bad crust, and the inconsistency here prevents them from being great. Also the comments about sogginess versus expecting it to be soft in the middle due to napoletana style - rubbish. Napoletana should be soft again, explicitly mentioned in the AVPN rules not soggy, and one fold of the tip in your slice inwards should hold your pizza in this style, so some softness is correct but when you fold the tip in and still struggle to hold the toppings - this means either too much toppings or inadequate dough structure. Unfortunately my pizza was genuinely burnt on the crust - I did not eat my crust and I rarely discard crust unless it commits a sin like killing my palate, and it was genuinely soggy in the middle - from the very first slice folding in the tip was not enough and having to roll it squishily. Anyway, aside from the technical consistency issue, flavour was good not particularly outstanding but fine really I'd eat it without the crust if the crust was burnt if offered but I would not come back for it.
I am very happy about the customer service. The waiters have a very good memory and this is the only place that I will spend $100 on. My favourite dish is the gnocchi, they had recently removed it from the menu but you are allowed to still request it. I enjoy dining here, my dad understands english but he loves speaking Italian. I am glad that he can speak to the waiters fluently and order anything without hesitation. definitely going here again! Kid-friendliness: They were really kind and the waiters were so polite. My child loves coming here on the weekends.
What an authentic pizzeria. Ask for the gnocci which isn't on the menu when you go. Pizzas are delicious, staff are very attentive for a very busy restaurant and service is prompt. Best espresso Martini I've had in a while.Food: 5/5
Absolutely amazing!! Can’t fault the food or the staff. We didn’t even have pizzas this good in Italy. Don’t live close by but we were in the neighbourhood and read the raving reviews. They don’t lie.. definitely need to try it!! Very reasonably priced also!
