Good information point, has toilets that are well maintained. Car park easy to get to. Have to go through a few fords, would better suit using a 4x4 getting to.
Gravel road is one of the worse. Couldn’t reached the car park in our Hiace because of the fords. Is more a 4x4 track.
Stunning view of the river and mountains. There are a number of fords on the way so need high clearance to get through. Snowy and ice during the winter. Great spot for a picnic on a great day
Raspberry Flat Carpark near Raspberry Creek is the end of the public road for the Rob Roy Track and the track to NZAC's Aspiring Hut plus Liverpool Hut DOC and French Ridge Hut NZAC. It is a large carpark with overflow, has summer toilets with water boil/filter/use at your own risk and a two-sided shelter to protect people waiting there from rain and wind, although not from the abundant sandflies. The gravel dirt road starts after the Treble Cone ski field junction and features cattle stops and seven water fords that could be deep and dangerous in heavy rain. If it has not rained recently then the road is OK for normal cars but do check your line and drive slowly through the fords. Beware of larger stones on the road and sheep and cattle too, you are driving trough an active farm. It is a beautiful drive best taken slowly, or at least with care.
Amazing drive and views. Worth every dent on my car
A big area although ABSOLUTELY freezing at night in the winter. Our camper froze but we hiked to Aspiring Hut so it defrosted during the day. Note the drive to is pretty exhausting and the fords are fine in regular+ vehicles. also the toilets are closed in the winter and there is only one drop toilet available.
Huge carpark for lots of vehicles, you can camp here overnight if you have a self-contained vehicle. According to locals and reviews elsewhere, it's a high risk area for theft so we camped ovenight - We were the only ones there. Stars are so beautiful at night, you can see the milky way, shooting stars and many planets. Windows had frosted over in the morning, toilets are all closed for the winter except a drop toilet, which is very disappointing. Didn't donate to the conservationists because of this. The road here is very dodgy, the 4WD's that go through create many potholes, making it difficult for campervans to get through - and the fords may be difficult to cross if it's been raining so check them out before you cross them. Ensure your rental company hasn't explicitly banned this road in your terms and conditions, and take it slow to minimise the gravel destroying the paint on your vehicle. Did the hike to aspiring hut in the dark and arrived back at 12:30 with our camper still intact. A pleasant wilderness freedom camping experience for once.
Carpark itself is decent with toilet facilities. The road there is terrible! Gravel/ stone road for 50min going 30km/h. Several fords to cross before you reach the carpark. On the plus side - beautiful scenery with mountains, lambs, deer and cows.
Great freedom camping spot for the views and scenic drive-in. Starting point for tracks to Aspiring Hut, Liverpool Hut, and French Ridge Hut. Be sure to pay your fees online before driving in during the off-season.
Long gravel road with some water crossings, take care if low suspension.
