Small place but will surprise you with a cozy interior and good Thai food. I really liked the Tom yum soup with seafood but would take the large one next time. The Pad Thai was good too. Portions are OK. Pricing reasonable. The staff were friendly and quick to take orders. You can pay with the Liven app here so that was great.
Thing is there are a lot of good Thai restaurants in the CBD and unfortunately Raan Kan Eang is more hit or miss. On one hand their chicken ribs are phenomenal. Their pad thai good. Their duck red curry and pineapple fried rice are atrocious. Kudos to the portion size this restaurant serves out but definitely not the best Thai restaurant in the neighbourhood.
Great Thai food hidden here. Love the Khana moo grob crispy skin pork and Chinese broccoli on rice - you gotta try this : Also, they take Liven payment ... that’s a bonus.
I was very disappointed.. Hey! You are representing Thai food please considered before you send your food out to customers, 1st time i went there with my friends on 30th December ordered Pad Thai Prawns took more than 30 min to serve with i expected gonna be amazing dish but ! too much tamarind sauce made it like curry not stir flies at all. Taste just sour. 2nd time we ordered take away Kang Jerd plain soup if you don't know the way to do it just not sell it please.
My go to place for spicy chicken ribs on fried rice it's not on the menu so you have to ask. Prices are reasonable and foods are pretty good.
I'm don't like the pork sprinroll ,but curry puffs and Thai milk tea is nice.
Love traditional pad Thai there tasty beef, chunky noodle with sweet and sour flavours of tamarind
Surprisingly good for a place that looks like a cheap and cheerful eatery. It’s not s big restaurant but does pack a mean meal. I had the soup which was very tasty and a good portion size. The pad Thai was very nice and would be happy to order again. So many of these fast eateries that cater for international students are diversifying what’s on offer in Melbourne. Wheelchair friendly but only just. Looking forward to exploring the menu more over the coming months.
The pricing on the menu on the outside shows a different price but when you enter, it is a completely different menu and prices are slightly higher. Not sure if they have a size... because on our receipt, we were charge for the large portion and the menu we were given, did not indicate if it was normal or large... The Wait for food is kinda slow... so if you are hungry.... you may want to have snack before dining here. Portions for the tom yum soup really doesn't match the price.... For Thai "street" food, it is rather pricey for what it is worth. Food maybe delicious, but it can get very salty or very sweet depending what you order. They also do not provide condiments like chilies for free, you will need to pay extra for those if you ask.
Pad Thai was great, the Tom yum is a must-order but you’ve gotta eat it fast before it turns cold. Order the larger bowl if you’re sharing. Spring rolls were good too. Place can be a little too small for large groups so better make sure to be there before the crowd comes!
