Purga Nature Reserve
"Purga Nature Reserve, just 15 minutes from Ipswich has the largest remnant of Swamp Tea Tree protected in Australia, and there are short, self-guided walks amid the ghostly, ashen trees. The reserve has two Class 2 tracks for easy level walking, including the 350-metre wheelchair-accessible Tea Tree Boardwalk Circuit, raised high enough to keep your feet dry even if the wetlands have had rain. The longer Melaleuca Circuit is still a fairly short stroll on flat land, and with the native herbs, wildflowers and ground covers in place, it’s an inviting habitat for birds. Keep your eyes peeled for Eastern Grey kangaroos, koalas and echidnas. The popular frog pond is host to the Green Treefrog, Eastern Sedgefrog and Stried Marshfrog."

Lovely place for the whole family to enjoy some refreshing time out in nature from the business of the city. Located in Ipswich but you'll feel relaxed and far away from city life. Nice area for a bbq with friends and family, and some walking around bird spotting to be done here.

Great little walks close to Ipswich. Good for kids. Feels a bit dated.

Really nice quiet walk through the reserve. Two short easy walks available.

Purga reserve was created to protect the endangered Swamp Tea-Tree forest and that is exactly what it is. It is mostly what the whole area was like before the land was cleared except for the towering Ironbark gums which are long gone. The facilities are very good and there are a couple of short easy trails one of which is a boardwalk. It is a very peaceful and pleasant place. The tea-tree forest is dense so there are no spectacular views other than the forest itself. I saw some scaly-breasted lorikeets and a sacred kingfisher on my visit but the frog pond was dry.
