It's a gem in the rough. I'm outracing a summer storm right now. I'm loving this mountain as come here as often as i can. The new hut is gorgeous: 24 beds, double glazing, running water, kitchen facilities, screen windows (!), Huge around deck, crazy views.

Be warned- Bell track signs can be misleading regarding the amount of time needed to get to the hut. One sign states 4-6 hours back the way we came up (we did it in 3) and in the other direction it states same amount of time (4-6 hours) to get to the hut. 8 hours later we ended up camping on the top of a ridge not sure if we were even close. A beautiful but difficult track.

Went to Kaniwhaniwha. Very easy trail most of the way to campsite. Great campsite. Trail to the actual caves was a lot more rugged but managed ok by our preschooler with parental assistance.

Awesome facility! If you are into mountain biking check out the amazing trails from grade 2 -5  at the top of Sainsbury Rd.
