Pioneer Settlement is a Heritage Tourist Attraction in the Mallee city of Swan Hill. It highlights the stories of the pioneers of the Murray/Mallee region

Story

Situated on the picturesque banks of the Marraboor River, you can embrace the past with the feeling that you have stepped back in time at the Pioneer Settlement. From our 1850s Pioneer Cottages to Towaninnie Homestead to our Mallee Township you can wander at leisure in a bygone world experiencing real Australian history.

Whether riding in our recently restored vintage Dodge or in our horse drawn carriage; or having a break in our Tea Rooms there's so much to see and do that you will be pleased that the entry ticket includes a complimentary second day.

Loved the laser light show. Absolutely unexpected and delighted us immensely. Well worth a visit. The staff and volunteers deeply care about this place and what they share with the visitors. Impressive all-round. My partner had been before and it was a completely different show and set up.

I have been to this place many times over the years as a local. This year I took some friends from overseas, they loved it. The ride in the old car, the river and taking photos in the old style clothing, great! Really great to see how much it has improved since 10 years ago!

We visited the Settlement at night to see the Heartbeat of the Murray Laser Light and Sound show. The settlement looked lovely in the sunset and we will return when we have a day in Swan Hill. Seeing and hearing the huge flocks of cockatoos flying through the settlement to their roost for the night in the beautiful river red gum trees was lovely while we were waiting for the show. Th e light show and story of the Murray River was excellent. We were there on a still night so the visuals looked magnificent. Definitely worth visiting if you are in Swan Hill at night.

What a place. We only saw the laser show at night which, on it's own, was magnificent. Can't wait to get back to see this place during the day. Spectacular.

Very nice to visit with very friendly and welcoming staff. Well laid out with lots to look at and lots of information. Free vintage car and horse and carriage rides and a nice river cruise.
