Giant Murray Cod Adjacent to the Train Station, NotablynnI arrived at the Giant Murray Cod without any particular expectations, other than that it would be large and, in all likelihood, a cod. In both respects it proved reliable.nnThe cod is situated very near the train station, which I appreciated. This proximity creates a sense of narrative continuity, as one may step off a train and be presented almost immediately with an enormous fish. It saves time and avoids suspense. I found this efficient.nnThe cod itself is substantial. It does not attempt subtlety, nor does it apologise for its scale. It remains fixed in place, exhibiting a calm confidence that suggests it has seen trains come and go before and will continue to do so. I stood opposite it for some time, during which neither of us moved.nnThere were other people present, though they did not appear to be waiting for the cod to do anything in particular. This seemed sensible. The cod, for its part, maintained its position and did not engage.nnI briefly considered the possibility that the cod might be watching the station, or that the station might be watching the cod, but found no evidence either way. Both appeared content with the arrangement.nnWhen I eventually left, the cod remained.
Is a fun and unique photo stop in Swan Hill. It’s a big fish statue near the railway station—great for tourists and families.nnThere’s some info nearby about the Murray River and fishing history. It’s clean, easy to park, and a nice quick stop if you’re exploring town.nnNot much to do around it, but it’s worth a visit for a quick picture and a bit of local charm.
Huge n beautiful Cod fish located in the centre of Swan Hill. Right opposite of RSL. Kids can sit in the mouth of the fish for taking pics.
