Lot of information available at Picton i-site. Even if the Visitors center is closed, there is lot of information on its outside wall. The visitors centre is just beside indoor golf establishment. There is lot of parking available. Parking near the visitors centre is for 60 minutes. A bit further in, the parking is for maximum of 4 hours. Be care not to park in the space allocated for central cars.
Olivia helped us book a ferry to do some day walking. She was very friendly and helpful but less than knowledgeable. She recommended that we walk the track from ship cove to Punga lodge as it was only 15 kilometres and ‘easy for families to do the walks between the pickup times’. Luckily we took a shorter walk as the above walk is actually 27 kilometres! Try getting a 7 year old to walk that far at all, let alone in five hours! In the end we took a shorter walk 11.5 kilometres which was very rushed. We only did it on Olivia’s recommendation that it was easy. The only reason we caught the ferry was because there was a large group of people queuing to board and it took longer. We had to power walk with a 7 year old for four hours just to catch the last ferry of the day by the skin of our teeth. Very poor advice which lead to a rushed unenjoyable day and very nearly cost us a private charter back to Picton.
Simply amazing!
Didn’t add much value. Not much info re tours went online afterwards, the recommended walk was definitely not suitable for small children and more info re weather on MetService. Disappointing opening hours.
This is an excellent visitors centre. Highly recommended. We arrived on a cruise ship and were dropped out the front. The wifi is excellent and free. There is a lot of information about different tours. The staff are friendly and very professional.
Nice little town with beautiful park near the water. Huge log storage area near where our ship tied up. Short ride into down town. Friendly library staff allowed us to access their internet!
The I-site is a place of controlled chaos. People are going in all directions, booking things, clambering aboard things, buying trinkets and meeting guides. But amidst it all the service from the staff is a-grade and knowledgeable. Toilet facilities nearby are free and clean
No experience but really dissapointed hours are only 10 till 4...ferry doesn't arrive till 4.30. We wanted help booking activities for following day..a bit late when opening at 10am..
The ladies at the counter were extremely helpful and understanding, thank you.
This is a free service and great idea of the people.of New Zealand. Thwy offer reasonable tours that beat the Cruise ship prices going and coming. They also offer free WiFi at most of their place around NZ.
