Story

Sydney circa 1822 – Lieutenant Percy Simpson is sent with a crew of 'educated convicts' from Sydney over the Great Divide with orders from Governor Brisbane to establish an experimental agricultural settlement in the Wellington Valley. The convict colony here settles in an abundant regional food belt and declares the village of Orange 'open for business' in 1846.

Fast-forward 168 years and Percy Simpson’s legacy lives on in Orange's first small bar - Percy's Bar & Kitchen. Established by two Sydney-siders who like our Lieutenant Percy made the trip west of the mountains to continue the growing movement in the NSW food and wine scene.

Percy’s Bar & Kitchen aims to showcase the best of what the Orange region has to offer brought together with the talent of local chefs,- an exciting yet approachable menu and venue with enough quirky twists to keep you coming back for more.

The drinks list promotes some of the region’s best winemakers, but isn't shy of welcoming a few outsiders from Australia’s and the world's most renowned regions that compliment those from the Central Tablelands . A revolving selection of craft beers and ciders, classic and experimental cocktails will keep even the most discernible convicts on their toes. The owners love their artisanal gin, rum and whiskeys so be sure to ask for something they have stashed behind the bar.

Percy’s industrial feel is the work of award winning designers Luchetti Krelle, of Momofuku Seiobo, Chimmichurri, Ananas and SoCal fame. Luchetti Krelle have created a space that is as welcoming on a chilly winter's night as it is on a sunny spring afternoon.

Orange's newest small bar welcomes locals and visitors alike, and we are certain Percy’s Bar & Kitchen will find a big place right in the heart of Orange.
