We love coming here when we visit Melbourne. It’s in a great lane with lots of graffiti. Meals are great to share. The grilled meats have a really char and complex flavour. Nice selection of different sizes of food, from very small bites, to entree sizes to mains. There’s also a good value $45 “business lunch”.Food: 5/5
Experience is overrated. Getting a menu was so hard, and to read them in the dim light was a major challenge. Had to use the flash from our phones. The waiter told us that our drink orders got served to someone else. In his defence, he did not charge us for 2 of the drinks, which was a nice gesture. Only 2 of the 4 of us on the table wanted to have the set menu, but we were told that all 4 of us have to have it or else no one can have. Didn't see that condition on the menu - such a show stopper. Eventually, the rest of the table also had to go for the set menu... one of us was vegetarian, and the vegetarian option on the set menu was not at all the greatest. There was a bread that was served to us with accompanying butter, and this was to die for - really amazing. However, again, 4 of us served only 3 pieces of bread, which was really not pleasant to start sharing. Rest of the food was good but there was nothing to write home about. The waiter reminded us to ensure he was tipped - so felt a bit uncomfortable. We did tip him though. All in all, it was overrated, overpriced and understaffed. Will not be back in a hurry. Vegetarian options: Not so great
Booked here for a quick no frills dinner pre-show at the theatre. Was blown away by the meal. - best pisco sour I’ve had in Australia, absolutely fantastic. A must order if you’re missing South America. I thought it was beautifully balanced. - oysters were fab, would recommend. - I like their selection of ceviches, some creative and fun flavours. The scallop ceviche was a standout to me. - my friends hadn’t tried yuca fritas prior to this visit. They are now obsessed. - skewer and the sauce that it came with, fabulous. - Eye fillet: admittedly a very averageee eye fillet but I have absolutely no regrets, as holy hell the chilli sauce it came with was mind-blowing. I tried to ask the waiter for the recipe haha. It lives rent free in my head. Considering what a good meal I was having up to that point, this sauce was truly some 100/10 top tier stuff to blow me away like that. Just wow. - lastly, the desserts. We ordered desserts just for the sake of ordering desserts, but we were so glad that we did. We were raving about the desserts all the way to the doors of Wicked. Have had my fair share of tres leches cake in Chile but hoooo boy that was a great cake. Also the matcha dessert was really subtle and beautifully paired. Certainly had us wondering how good the other desserts on the menu are too! Also the service was great. I liked the tramontina steak knives they had so much that I ordered a full set shortly after this visit. The prices were also so reasonable even with drinks in the mix, especially considering the excellent variety we had on the menu to pick from. All in all, a Melbourne staple for us to return to now. Would happily reorder everything and can’t wait to try more on their menu. This is one of those places that you think “wow yes the chefs here DEFINITELY taste their food and they also most definitely have great taste buds”, I mean every sauce and condiment that paired with each dish was complex and umami To the team at Pastuso, thanks for the incredible meal. Please open a branch in Brisbane- it would pop off.
I recently dined at Pastuso with friends and found the experience to be mixed. The restaurant has a pleasant and inviting ambiance, and the menu looked promising. However, we encountered some initial issues with the service. When we inquired about the set menu, the waiter was not very informative and seemed confused. He ultimately did not provide it, stating that it was only available if the entire table ordered it, despite us finding it cheaper online. Moving on to the food, we started with quinoa bread, which was freshly made, delicious, and soft. The accompanying macca butter was exceptional and set high expectations for the rest of the meal. We then had the corn cake, which was flavorful and well-prepared. The fried chicken, however, was a bit disappointing, though the sauce served with it was quite good. The cauliflower steak was nicely cooked and seasoned. Unfortunately, the roasted lamb, the most expensive dish we ordered, fell short as it lacked flavor. Overall, while there were some standout dishes, there were also several areas for improvement, particularly with service and certain menu items. Pastuso has potential, but a more consistent execution would enhance the dining experience.
What a fantastic restaurant. We loved our family lunch here. There was so much to enjoy. The pisco sour, the ceviche, the beautifully moist chicken, the beef, the empanadas, and so on. While it was all fabulous, my two favourites were the snapper ceviche and the chicken. They were both utterly delicious. We also thoroughly enjoyed the wines we had. Service was exceptional throughout from the young servers. Polite, friendly and efficient. This is an excellent restaurant for a special meal. We will return here for sure
What an amazing experience! I haven't had a good dining experience in a while, but honestly, it was a delightful night. The food was really Peruvian and flavours were super freshFood: 5/5
This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Melbourne, hands down! The waitstaff is professional and very welcoming. The entire restaurant, including the staff, exudes a lively and enthusiastic vibe, creating the perfect dining atmosphere. Each server has tasted the items on the menu, so they really know how to recommend dishes that suit the customers. It's truly amazing—I've lived in Melbourne for over ten years and never had such a comfortable dining experience.
We had a great experience at Pastuso. We tried a bit of everything there. The flavors were amazing, everything was fresh and delicious. The portions and quality are great for price. The place is exotic, they have different areas and are able to accommodate big groups. Bookings are maybe a good idea to ensure your spot specially if you are celebrating something. Music is nice, not too high and very Latino style but keeping the environment chic and romantic. Staff is professional, our waitress could be a bit more friendly. There are some car parks around the area for good price. Options for vegetarians and vegans available. Check out the promo of the day if you are having lunch on weeekdays.
Not quite traditional Peru food ,it's more a modern twist on South American. Firstly it's not a cheap night out, cocktails are overpriced and the Pisco is watered down. Quite disappointing. And you wonder why the man and woman on the street don't frequent these high end restaurants anymore, it's because you get charged a bomb for drinks and you pay extra for sides ! Those negatives aside, you can't fault the food, the service or the ambience. By all means if you have money to burn and you love quality food then by all means this is a fantastic experience. Parking: Ac/Dc car park is next door, costs $10 flat rate on weekends
Absolutely stunning experience which as the set menu we chose is titled takes you through a culinary journey of Peru. All the dishes were of a really generous portion and elegantly executed. Service was great with the staff being very hospitable and friendly. The place had a great vibe and energy with the deco exuding a classy yet playful feel. Star dishes for me were the Tres Leches dessert, the king fish ceviche and the corn cake dish. Paired the dishes with a bottle of Malbec which went well with all the courses. Reservations are recommended. This place is a must try.
