Our purpose is to provide a chance to breathe and unwind.
We offer warmth and calm in the bustling metropolis of melbourne, our baths are heated to 40c
in tradtional japanese bath house style.
Drop by and experience a little bit of Japan in Melbourne.

We have a variety of yoga, pilates and qi gong classes running on wednesday and thursday nights.

Facilities were clean and staff friendly. We tried the private baths followed by an hour shiatsu massage - which was firm and targeted they do ask how firm you prefer & where you'd want to focus on
Booked and paid online which was v.easy. Located in heart of bustling Melbourne alley, the space upstairs was quiet and peaceful. My wife and I had a couples massage in a lovely large room. Both our therapists were highly skilled with a professional manner. Thoroughly enjoyed our dry massages.
Went a couple of times and enjoyed the experience. received a giftcard for another visit, but then they abruptly closed and were unresponsive to email and phone calls. Eventually they responded to my emails and offered a refund if I just replied to them, but they have never responded since and 15 months later they are still "temporarily closed", unresponsive to emails, haven't provided a refund. Avoid!
Even at $120 for an hour in the private baths it is definitely worth it! The facilities feel quite authentic although I have yet to make it to Japan and for your money you are provided not just with access to private showers, heated pool and sauna but also towels, shampoo, tea, water, combs and hair dryers. They have a beautiful waiting area. Upon arrival you swap your shoes for provided slippers. The baths themselves do not have doors, only Japanese style curtains. Regardless the space is quite private. The walls do not extend to the roof so everyone in the building speaks with hushed tones so as to not disturb the other patrons. Apparently afternoons during the week are the most available time with peaks during the morning and weekends. The staff are very professional, friendly and polite. I immediately felt welcome. Highly recommended, particularly as it's only 2 min walk from Parliament station!
I was given a gift voucher for Mothers Day last year. I made contact with the baths and found out they were closed for extended repairs and that I would be given a six month extension on my voucher. Since reopening I have emailed, called, tried online booking all with no success at making contact- the voicemail says it is full and I am unable to leave a message. My voucher for a massage and private bath for 2 is about to expire again and there has been no way for me to make a booking. I am very disappointed with the service and it seems quite dodgy to not make contact with voucher users- in other words people who have paid for the service prior to the repairs. I will be investigating this further.
Wonderful experience visiting this place. A friend and I had the private bath and massage. Masa, my therapist, was incredible. I got a full body massage and he then worked on a few pain points around my back. Overall, a totally relaxing and amazing experience!
Pool was chlorinated, not very hot, and had several long hairs sitting together with some small black bits swirling around at the bottom. The sauna and rest of the facility is otherwise nice. It would be nice if they invested in better moisturizers, and something/anything for hair other than a hair dryer would have been nice ex. Flat iron, curler, hair product.
AVOID. My partner and I had a wonderful experience the first couple of times we visited the onsen. But since then, it’s been a constant drama trying to get someone to answer the phone, let alone us being able to visit pre-COVID. Supposed renovations have dragged on for years and the place appears to be abandoned – but don’t worry, you can still buy vouchers online, they’ll still take your money, and you’ll still be unable to visit. Disgusting.
DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM OSEN MA ITS A SCAM. Bought the private spa voucher a few months ago and you can’t use it as the business has shut down. They are operating as if they’re open, still taking money from consumers on their website, however the business is closed. Contacting consumer affairs. Shame on them!!
Do not buy gift cards from their website! I was given one in November and have been unable to contact them to use - they don’t answer emails or phone calls. Reading other reviews, looks like they’ve closed down! Dodgy business that has stolen money from customers!!! 08/19 update: I eventually got my money back - after lodging a VCAT hearing which cost $81. Onsenma contacted me prior to VCAT hearing and refunded me my voucher plus costs.
