We came for Xmas lunch as we were passing through Oamaru from the Lakes District to stay in Moeraki for the long wkd. I emailed the restaurant ahead of time and the manager responded quickly, she sent the menu and was lovely to correspond with. The female hosts & servers at the location were super nice and accommodating, checked up on us plenty and made sure we were taken care of. The food wasn't bad, hearty and comforting, the usual Xmas fare was served with 3 meat options which we were grateful for because we aren't big ham fans, ham tastes like ham everywhere afterall. It was nice to have the cheese & charcuterie platters upon arrival with our drinks while waiting for the buffet to open. The only unfortunate incident was a run in with the male ?cook?, imagine paying $120+ pp only to be scolded by staff for taking one clean bowl to grab some seconds on Xmas day because they didn't have enough plateware apparently, how would anyone visiting know this? Put up a sign or give us a rundown of the rules when seating us or something, there's a nicer way of communicating and if you can't do that perhaps you should stay back of house in the kitchen and let the friendly servers deal with it courteously. Way to ruin a special occasion, my burly ex-footballer husband had to restrain himself from decking the guy for speaking to me like that. I've worked in hospitality for 20+ years, with 14 chefs in 3 countries, and I know that male cooks/chefs have a reputation for being short tempered, ill mannered divas, but there's no need to live up to the cliché, especially on Xmas day. I would've given them 4 stars otherwise, 5 stars for the other staff members.
The fish and chips dish is not recommended. The burger was a bit too salty.
From the moment the plate hit the table, I knew this meal was something special. The presentation was clean and inviting, and the aroma alone could’ve sold me. Every bite was balanced — the flavours worked together perfectly, with just the right mix of texture and seasoning. You can tell the ingredients were fresh and handled with care.nnService was friendly without being pushy, and the wait time was short. The atmosphere added to the whole experience — warm lighting, relaxed vibe, and just enough background music to keep things lively.nnIf you’re after a meal that actually leaves you satisfied and maybe even planning your next visit before you leave, this place nails it.

Have come here before and enjoyed it so much I wanted to stay in the hotel as well and make a night of it. As advertised on the website the hotel has a bar and restaurant.nIt was my husband’s birthday we came up for the night and checked in and got ready to go down to the bar, only to discover it was closed. Bar and restaurant is closed on Sundays. This is not openly communicated on the website and very deceiving when booking in to the hotel.nWe were so disappointed as had planned the whole trip around this.
