As someone with zero interest in boats maritime, it was a pleasant experience. Mainly targeting kids, great incorporation of technology and very interactive museum. My favorite part was the replica of the old home, total nostalgia for someone who grew up in NZ. Free entry for Aucklanders, great viaduct views from inside, local restaurants and take aways surround this location.
Unlike my husband, I have no particular interest in boats, yachts or ships but I found this maritime museum intriguing. Aside from the many model vessels, the New Zealand seafaring history was interesting. Worth a visit. Consider upgrading your ticket to go on a cruise around the harbor on one of their restored ships. Perfect thing to do on a summer day!
Very nicely done with simple way of walking through - just follow the blue line. Plenty of tings to see - easily spent there 3 hrs so have some time on ur hands. If u r an Auckland resident got to have a proof though, the ticket would be without charge. If not, well, we were told we can revisit the very next day on the same ticket if we didn't manage to finish the tour.
Very big. Takes 3-4 hours to get through it. A lot of information about history and connection to indigenous people. Nice clean toilets. Worth money. You can even come the next day for the same ticket!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
There is so much great stuff and great history here! We spent 4+ hours and ran out of steam. We cut it short because we had to catch a fight, but given a cappuccino and a bit of a break and we'd have spent another 2-3!
Excellent museum and well worth a visit. The Maori maritime heritage section was especially interesting. You can go for a sail on one of the boats ideally book in advance for that and the whole place is super interactive, equally for kids and adults. The reconstructed steerage cabin is another highlight. Really great attraction.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Came here to spend a couple of hours, and I walked out 5 hours later. I really enjoyed the cultural carvings and various sailing vessels from the Pacific. I'm going back there to see things that l haven't seen. I loved the ourside exhibits. It's the school holidays so there were lots of families and children. I loved the area, and it's right on the bike and scooter lanes, so it is easily accessible.
Wonderful place to spend the day with kids. Fun, history and bag full of knowledge. Also souvenir shop and café there for some food and drinksVisited onWeekendWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNo
Very nice museum if you're into ships or the history of immigration into New Zealand. We spent about an hour but it'll take longer if you want to read everything.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
