National Wool Museum

About

We love wool!

Story

In the heart of Geelong’s vibrant new waterfront precinct is the National Wool Museum. Set in an historic 1872 bluestone woolstore, the Museum building formed part of a vast complex housing the Wool Broking firm of Dennys Lascelles Ltd in the times when Geelong was considered the wool capital of the world.
The Museum presents the timeless Australian story of wool, from sheep farming and wool production through to the processing of fleece into fabric. A visit to the National Wool Museum is an essential part of a visit to Geelong and the Bellarine. Open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Good Friday, from 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and from 10.00am to 5pm on weekends.

The Wool Museum was really interesting, but what we loved the most was the photography section! I wish they had stamps, stickers, or tickets as souvenirs instead of just the receipt—it would have been great for my journaling. I’d definitely visit again!
Very informative. I enjoyed it very much. I loved how they talk about not only the machinery but also other aspects such as animal welfare.nThe wildlife photography exhibition on the first floor is also amazing.
Randomly came across this museum while I was in the area and it completed exceeded my expectations! If you are a knitter/crocheter like me or just interested in wool and textiles you must pay this place a visit. It’s only got 3 floors but they were all very fun to explore. Note that some exhibitions are paid, but they are very worth it.
Good place to visit. Had a lot about the history of the wool industry. There were also art and photography displays. Tickets were $12 for adult.
When my husband proposed we visit the National Wool Museum, I laughed at the idea. But to my surprise, I actually really enjoyed it! The museum is incredibly informative and has so many interesting exhibits. It’s definitely worth the $12 per person admission fee.nnThere are plenty of things to see and do, from learning about the history of wool production to seeing the beautiful textile displays. Some exhibits also delve into the history and realities of animal cruelty in the industry, which was eye-opening and important to learn about. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the experience. I walked away with a newfound appreciation for the wool industry and its impact. Highly recommend a visit!
