National Wool Museum

About

We love wool!

Story

In the heart of Geelong’s vibrant new waterfront precinct is the National Wool Museum. Set in an historic 1872 bluestone woolstore, the Museum building formed part of a vast complex housing the Wool Broking firm of Dennys Lascelles Ltd in the times when Geelong was considered the wool capital of the world.
The Museum presents the timeless Australian story of wool, from sheep farming and wool production through to the processing of fleece into fabric. A visit to the National Wool Museum is an essential part of a visit to Geelong and the Bellarine. Open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Good Friday, from 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and from 10.00am to 5pm on weekends.

The National Wool Museum is a nice change from other museums. It is fascinating to see how our clothes are made from wool and to learn how the process was done in the past. A very interesting and educational visit.
Great static displays of the Australian Wool Industry. Most outstanding display is in the centre of the building; the carpet loom. A staff member operates the loom intermitently throughout the day… but beware! He is not there Thursday or Friday.nA brilliant vision of human ingenuity and the lost age of manufacturing.
You see a great deal of machinery and other things to do with wool here. It's worth the visit with the variation of things to see and heaps to read about.
This museum was a lovely surprise. I learned a lot about history, visited an exhibition, and also the shop which was great. There lots of nice wool jumpers, scarves and socks and other products in the shop.
We had a great morning there and front ladies were amazing. Such a great place to learn about wools and history. Museum has a lot of information and all those real machinery to see. And easy access near Geelong waterfront.
