MS Nelson Ford Company History

The Company of W G Vining Ltd set up in May 1914 originally sold Cadillacs and later obtained franchises for Hudson Essex, Chevrolet and Rover cars. He did sell one new Ford Model T in 1915!

In May 1919 The Nelson Universal Car Company Ltd was formed as District Agents for Ford Cars one of the many objects of the Company was to carry on the business of being manufacturers of, importers of, dealers in, agents for, repairers, cleaners, storers and warehouses of automobiles, motor cars, motors, motor cycles, bicycles, velocipedes and carriages of all kinds!

By 1926 the Ford agency had changed to R Wright & Son and then G M Smart Ltd took over the premises which had a workshop, petrol station and a showroom facility for one car. With the close of G M Smart Ltd, M S Motors Ltd was established by Dick Stevenson and Bob McKegg in August 1938 and has continued to trade for over 75 years. Bob McKegg sold out in 1957 after which three generations of Stevenson's had the control of the company.

The Colonial Motor Company set up MS Ford 1998 Ltd, buying the trading company, plant and stock of MS Motors Ltd in April 1998 which today, operates a full range of Service, Parts and Vehicle Sales under the experienced eye of Alan Kirby, Dealer Principal.

Recently bought a 2nd hand ranger from the msford team. Noticed some minor issues with window and aircon. MS ford stood by their product and fixed it all up for me. Pleasant experience from Ross at sales all the way to Zoe in service centre. Great communication and knowledgeable staff. They bent over backwards to keep me happy. service was fantastic!

After about 6 mouths of tyre kicking and not making my mind up ,I have just driven a way with a brand new Ranger. Thanks to Ricky for coming up with the right vehicle solution, from all the choices at MS Ford. Excellent service had a problem with my Ford rung up and even tho there where flat out they managed to fit it in, found the problem fixed it the following week perfect, can't ask for more impressive from the whole team cheers.
Tried contacting Can Am Paul, on a friends recommendation with a view to purchasing a side by side. Hopeless service. My friend called. I called. Still waiting on Paul’s reply to our phone messages. Very poor service for such a great product.
Asked specific written questions on whether there had been any paintwork on any of the panels on a 10,000 dollar, 2 wheel drive, 1994 Hilux described as best available in NZ. I stressed how important it was to know this before travelling from Wellington and asked if it could be inspected by someone who knew what they were looking for as Ross the salesperson said he did not have the ‘expertise’. He said he had had it checked and the paintwork was absolutely all original.On arrival at the dealership, it was immediately obvious two rear panels had been painted and not well - and I am no expert, but the different colour and overspray, gave it away. Complete wasted journey and simply not good enough MS Ford.
