Mountain Creek State High School

Story

Mountain Creek State High School is a co-educational, state secondary school. It is the largest school on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and one of the largest in the state. Located in the suburb of Mountain Creek, 96km north of Brisbane, Mountain Creek has grown from an enrolment of 360 in its foundation year in 1995 to 2046 students in 2009.In 2000, the school was recognised as one of Queensland's most progressive and innovative as a winner of Education Queensland's Showcase For Excellence Award. The school is organised around four Sub-Schools that are designed to break down the large size of the school. Consequently, each academic cohort of about 275 students in the middle school is taught by the same group of about 25 teachers. The school is therefore able to offer all the benefits of a large school like a broad range of subject choice and co-curricular activities while enjoying the advantages of a small school such as close personal relationships between teachers and students.The school's major objective is to bring a greater international focus to its curriculum and operations. The school is an International Baccalaureate school. In 2015, the school will also hold year 7 students.
