Worst experience for our family at a school and we are incredibly thankful we got both our children out of there after 1 term. I will start with the positives … academically they were very good in science, maths and english. However, Japanese was disorganised and we had to email the teacher multiple times for basic support and assignment clarification. Our 12 year old son who is a bright and gentle kid with adhd was then relentlessly bullied by 2 individuals and also by a group in the year 7 cohort. Some staff members normalised the bullying behaviour which included repeatedly nipple flicking our son without his consent, shaming him for having adhd, throwing objects at him in the shower and pulling his shorts down at camp, breaking his hat on purpose and online bullying on a year 7 “friendship” group and our son was not fully supported by staff and did not feel safe at school. I wonder if he was female if the repeated nipple flicking would still been considered acceptable behaviour? We got the impression that this ethos of tolerating very inappropriate behaviour was coming directly from the principal whilst also allowing some staff behaviour that was very unprofessional. The counsellor made negative comments about us as parents directly to our son which made him very uncomfortable support we were trying to provide to our son re kids bullying him and she was also normalising bullying behaviour. After we complained about this it was swept under the rug and not even acknowledged. Another staff member was honking and shaking her finger at a parent at pick up time as the parent had apparently parked too close to her ute and after observing this I wondered how this staff member conducts herself with children at school if she behaves this way towards a parent in the parking lot. The learning support teachers input was very average and they gave our son a TEST to see if he knew what exams and assignments he had coming up in “study smart” which was the most ridiculous waste of time for a bright kid who just needed support re organising his diary with upcoming assignments. Some staff members were incredibly judgemental and unsupportive and we have never experienced bullying at this level that was tolerated so that everyone can “get along” and put up with unkind and inappropriate behaviour at a Christian school. We are so thankful we are no longer at Calcc as it was the worst experience for us at a religious school lacking in all the Christian values that are important to our family integrity, kindness, tolerance of differences, compassion and love.
I could not have thought in my wildest imagination that a school could be so incredible! Our kids ages are: Yr 7 boy Prep girl My son didn't enjoy his public primary school and I was hesitant to think about how he was going to go in high school but we found this school and it is amazing. He loves school now and has a great peer group. My daughter didn't go to the early learning centre there unfortunately! but has been settling in well with friends, reading, writing, spelling and maths and loves her teacher!! The teachers genuinely care about the students and get to know each other. They foster healthy relationships with both parents and students to ensure there is a safe space for kids to thrive, both academically and in life skills. The parents are also very down to earth and good quality families. Quite a few parents are involved in other capacities of the school or community like or teaching/teacher aids, sports, churches, etc so you get to know each other over time. Community service and serving each other with respect and kindness and discipline is great without feeling like it's too much. The school doesn't discriminate against other backgrounds and we find them inclusive and loving with a firm foundation on core values. The kids are also being taught how to express themselves spiritually which is also very important for us.
Really great school, with discipline and guidelines for the children, teachers are great and are not afraid to pull children in line if they cross it, unlike the public system. Really caring and warm-hearted teachers and Staff. I like it and my children too.
It's a lovely smaller christian college with caring teachers. I attended high school here graduated in 2005. I really enjoyed my experiences, many of the teachers, and especially the friendships I gained. I met my loving husband, and many of my current best friends at school so I have lots of appreciation for the value it's added to my life. I now send my own children to the school, and hope they continue to have enjoyable schooling experiences here too.
My child started here this year. All the staff and families are friendly and supportive. Moreover I love the fact that they give emphasis on character formation in a child and Christian values. This is very well reflected in the high school children here, the are polite and respectful of others.
We love CalCC! Great school, great teachers, great facilities, awesome and engaged Principal. Do not be put off by being a smaller school. It is not a school it is a community.
Great school! Our kids are thriving there - academically and socially. Very friendly community
It’s too much, there is a difference between religious studies and indoctrination, though very welcoming and loving school
Wonderful caring christians so warm and loving and welcoming, I felt so still and alone, I at all times the love was almost too much to bare
Excellent educational foundation with progressive and useful study program.
