It's a ferry. Not much too it. Staff are friendly, cabin is spacious and comfortable. There's a canteen on board with Lorries pies (if that means anything to you). You can take your 4WD on board - it's the only way to get a car to the Island. You board 1hr before departure though, so it winds up being quite a long trip. If you aren't part of an organised tour, there's broadly four ways to spend your time. 1. Visit Tangalooma. Tangalooma has the only deep water anchorage on the Island, so this is where the ferry will drop you off. Be aware that the ferry landing is just outside the town. It takes about 20 min to walk to the centre of town at low tide and about an hour at high tide (hello soft sand). Also Tangalooma is all private property (including the beach). Only property owners, resort guests and day pass holders are allowed into the township (including the beach). You'll need to arrange accommodation or day passes before you get to the island. 2. Hang around the ferry landing. This doesn't need a Tangalooma pass because it's just outside the boundary. There's a picnic shelter, wrecks to snorkel and calm water to swim in. The beach is also the main road on the island, so you probably won't be able to set up on the sand. 3. Go to one of the other townships. You'll need to arrange the taxi to pick you up from the ferry landing if you didn't bring your own 4WD. It's kinda expensive though and you should arrange it before you get to the island. 4. Go to one of the campgrounds or picnic areas around the island. You'd best have your own vehicle if this is your plan. To be honest, if you are planning a day trip without your car, this ferry isn't the best option. There's other pedestrian ferries that pull in closer to three of the four townships (including Tangalooma) and it's just generally less hastle to use the ferry that goes closest to the town you want to go to if you aren't staying long.

The booking and organising staff were very helpful - they helped me get my car on the barge despite not having a booking and the barge being very full already. Friendly and reasonable. Of course the cost of the barge itself is huge as this is the only service that transports vehicles to Moreton Island.

Very expensive food & drink. Activities are also expensive. Check out costs before planning you're trip. 10$ for a bag of chips. Bring your own stuff with you. Lots of good things to do. Parasailing, catamaraning, quad biking , Segway, scuba diving, snorkeling, etc. Something I would do occasionally. Good fun if you have a lot of money.
