Four years of trying to get this school to deal with bullies and the onus is constantly out back on the victim. This school builds and nurtures an environment of bullying and bigotry and when students cannot attend due to such a severe decline in mental health from verbal, emotional and physical attacks...they are punished. My child was once attacked by another violent student. My child was suspended for defending themselves when the student was strangling them and the teacher watched, too scared to intervene. Today we got the real company line regarding the bullies... "We can talk to them, but it won't change them" ‍ said as justification for putting the onus back on the victim AGAIN.
For a school with such huge potential it is a real shame that it is in decline. There is no communication, very little support for students that are struggling. It's easier to suspend than educate. So many students are suspended at a time, to the extent that dedicated re-entry classes are held twice a week to cater for this. Absent messages are sent to parents asking where suspended children are because senior staff do not communicate with student administration and inform them of these suspensions. No school work is assigned for these kids to do at home and generally letters explaining suspensions arrive in the mail after a student has returned to school. Smoking in school grounds is prolific as is marijuana. Kids go to the oval at lunch time to get stoned. Teachers are addressed by their first names, you cannot have issues addressed as one on one meetings are not offered. To get support you have to jump through hoops via the education dept and learning services. Bullying is not addressed, the leadership is not competent or flexible. I really hope that introducing years 11 and 12 does not over extend the capacity for learning in an already weak educational environment.
From what it seems, this school has a lot of promise. A strong, passionate community; caring, intelligent staff; and a serious but fun principal in Pieta Langham. Located across from the school is the wonderful MONA, that houses one of the world's greatest private collections of art; and from what I can tell, it's also a pleasant sight to look at from the outside - as is the school that has a unique modern style. The students there are lucky and will do well to utilize such a splendid environment for education. In terms of learning opportunities, it is up there with the best Tasmania has to offer and will surely be home to a progressive future. Signed: Greg O'Connor, Human Resource Analyst, New South Wales.

Montrose bay high has been great, I have had no problems with my son going to this school and I feel not only is my son 100% supported but so is his family.
