We had an amazing experience at the Early Parenting Centre at Mitcham Private Hospital in July. The nurses and doctors were so supportive and caring, special thanks to Margot, Allison, Shelly and others whose names I’m sorry I’ve forgotten. By day two, my daughter was already sleeping through the night, which felt unimaginable!nnUntil today, she still sleeps really well on her own, even through teething and bouts of cold and flu. We also met other mums and their babies, and it felt like a small, warm community during those days and nights.nnWe left feeling happy, well-rested, and confident with a better routine. I’m so grateful for the professional guidance and the team’s kindness. If we have a second child, we’ll definitely come back even sooner!
I had a mixed experience at Mitcham Early Parenting Centre. On the positive side, most of the staff were friendly and helpful, and we did leave with a few useful takeaways—our 3.5-month-old learned to sleep in a cot, and we became better at recognising his different cries.nnHowever, the overall experience was disappointing and, at times, distressing. The quality of care varied drastically between staff shifts—some were compassionate, others cold and unhelpful, especially when we were struggling. The program doesn’t provide a baby monitor, expecting parents to listen for escalating cries, which left us standing for long periods in the hallway watching a monitor ourselves.nnThe facility itself was not as advertised: rooms were cramped, noise travelled throughout the ward, and basic comforts like food, beds, and kitchen amenities were severely lacking—surprising for a private hospital.nnThe settling methods are rigid and not tailored to the baby’s age or needs. Despite following all advice, our baby ended up sleeping worse by the end of the stay. We were also advised to alter his feeding routine, but staff failed to weigh him at the end of the program as promised. A follow-up check revealed he had lost weight.nnWhile we took away a few positives, the experience felt one-size-fits-all and, for us, was more traumatic than supportive. They recommended coming back and happy to take our private health cover knowing that they charge $4900 for the program that has not any of the level of care you’d expect for that price. I’d highly recommend looking into alternatives like the O’Connell Sleep Program, which offers a more responsive and age-appropriate approach.
I recently gave birth to our second child at Mitcham Private. Dr Hamilton is a phenomenal OB and we felt very well supported throughout the pregnancy and birth. Her knowledge, empathy and calm nature were exactly what I needed second time round after having a traumatic first birth in the public system. A special shoutout to midwives Suzanne, Kate and Ruth for supporting me during my birth. Gary the anaesthetist was also great and very experienced. Kathy was also very knowledgeable and helpful during postpartum care. There were many others who supported us during our stay - all the midwives are wonderful. The level of care was outstanding and the food was also amazing there was a lot of food which is exactly what a new mother needs, and the option for your partner to also have meals. The rooms were beautiful and almost didn’t feel like a hospital - more of a homely feel and a very comfortable environment. I highly recommend Mitcham Private Hospital. Limited visiting hours are also beneficial to allow mum and baby to rest. Thank you to all the staff who contributed to make this such a wonderful experience.
We recently welcomed our second baby at Mitcham Private and couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. Dr Sophie Leong was fabulous as always, and the midwives and nurses were nothing short of incredible. Their care, kindness, and support made such a difference during our stay — we truly felt so well looked after. Highly recommend Mitcham Private for maternity care!
We recently welcomed our baby at Mitcham Private Hospital, and I cannot speak highly enough of the outstanding care we received from the entire maternity team.nnFrom the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. A heartfelt thank you to Danny, Lujia, Lana, Sara, Karen, Sue and many other midwives – each of you played a vital role in making our experience so special. We will not forget the memorable experience at this hospital.nnThe midwives were incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and reassuring throughout labor and recovery. We always felt heard and never rushed – something that made a huge difference as first-time parents.nnWe'd also like to acknowledge the cleaning and catering staff, whose friendliness and dedication kept everything running smoothly and made the stay even more comfortable. The quality of the vegetarian food was awesome.nnThank you, Mitcham Maternity Team, for making the arrival of our baby such a beautiful and positive experience. We will always remember your kindness.
