A convenient cafe located next to Dendy's cinema in Newtown. Ambience was nice, staff was quite friendly and there are plenty of seats including a few outdoor ones. However, our food took a while to arrive. Had to check-in with staff when it would be ready, also keep-in-mind it was a quiet weekday. I could tell a customer across from me was getting quite agitated as well. After a good 40 minutes to maybe an hour, food finally arrived. The schnitzel was mediocre, same with the mash and veggies. I wasn't blown away, but luckily the pancakes were good. Would add more flavour and seasoning to the veggies and mash. The schnitzel needed more texture and crunch. However, at least the portion was good.
Great location with plenty of seating. Venue was clean, tidy and we'll presented. Staff seemed very disinterested and bored. Coffee was good. I ordered Eggs Benedict with bacon for breakfast, it was about as exciting as truck stop food, but nice enough. Considering the price you'd expect a little originality in preparation and ingredients, alas it seems to be made on Coles English muffins and bacon. Will look for another cafe on my next stop in town.
Great location on King St. Friendly and efficient staff. Plenty of seating in doors and out. Average pricing. I ordered their home made granola with yoghurt. I was a bit disappointed as the yoghurt was minimal and if there had been more, would have helped to balance out the over bearing strong honey taste my dish had. I would eat here again but would not order their in house granola again.
I've had a great experience so far whenever I visit this place. The staff are super friendly and easy to chat with, always bubbly. They take their time to explain a menu item with you if you're curious about it, which I found very generous. Both times I've came, I brought a book with me and there were a few tables around me with people reading their own books! I don't know if that's a common thing to see in Newtown but I loved seeing that. I would definitely come back
We always drop in to the Milk Bar when we visit Dendy. The Turkish Hot Chocolate has rose flavouring in it - nice! The main courses are always perfectly presented and delicious. Try the chicken and mushroom pesto pasta or the grilled salmon and broccolini with cauliflower puree - wonderful! The room is spacious, with views out onto King Street and its river of busyness and characters. Open late for cakes and dessert too. One of our favourites!
We ordered a bunch of food and they tasted ok. The meatballs pasta tasted fresh but the meat was sort of plain and needed a bit seasonings in it. The creamy pasta was ok and nice but some of the pasta weren’t cooked enough. The beef burger was nice but still the patty needed a bit seasoning therefore it’d taste better. The staffs were a bit rude but it was fine.
I have never had a more mixed experience eating with a group of friends. Some of the food was great, however some was average, and some was outright poor. The consistency of the bacon was laughable at best, some looked normal and then some was shriveled and charred. The milkshakes from a place with milkbar in the name were also disappointing and icy, more frappe than milkshake. Also stabbed my hand on a protruding screw of which on further inspection was one of many.
I come here whenever I have a movie session at Dendy. It’s a good spot to chill before/after the movie, or to get some work done with free wifi. The coffee is alright, the staffs are friendly. The venue appears a bit run down. Overall it is okay.
Pretty good late night 11Pm coffee. Very kind and attentative staff, the place is also quite comfortable and warm - Good for reading or catching up with friends. The menu looks very interesting, and the food serves looks good haven't tried it myself though.
The Milk Bar in Newtown has a nice variety of sweets available to choose from at the front counter to enjoy with your tea or coffee. There are plenty of tables to sit at with table service and the menu has a variety of meals to choose from which get made fresh in the kitchen. It’s a nice place to meet up with friends from morning until late at night.
