Rude staff, poor workmanship and a JUNK lifetime diamond warranty Here’s a tip. If you’re getting a diamond ring from Michael Hill with a lifetime diamond warranty, make sure that the details of your ring inspections are properly recorded on the hard copy plan that you’ll take home with you. That piece of paper is your only evidence that you’ve taken your ring in for a check because in this day and age, Michael Hill still does not keep electronic records. Even though you don’t work there, do your best and figure out if the staff member has written out the details correctly, otherwise your warranty becomes null and void. You may also be accused of fudging the paperwork, as it happened in my case. My husband bought me an engagement ring in 2015 with a lifetime diamond warranty. Worst mistake ever! The ring didn’t last, but luckily our marriage is still going strong. Not long after I started wearing the ring, I lost the diamond. Michael Hill agreed to replace the diamond then. So disappointing that the diamond fell out of the ring so soon but it does say a whole lot about the workmanship at Michael Hill. After the diamond was replaced, I stopped wearing the ring for fear of losing the diamond again. Fast forward a few years and a pandemic, my husband took the ring in at the start of last year while we were still in between lockdowns to get the ring checked. We did miss a few of the six-monthly checks life, illness and lockdowns happened but the staff member signed off on the warranty and told him to come back in six months for another ring inspection. So I took the ring in six months later. The staff member told me that there was a crack in the ring and my diamond warranty was void. I told the staff member this was not mentioned in our previous visit. She grilled me on why I wasn’t doing regular checks. I told her that I didn’t bring the ring in for inspections as it had been sitting in a box and I didn’t think there would wear and tear. She made it clear to me that I still had to come in ironically, due to wear and tear. She also said the paperwork was not filled out correctly and questioned the handwriting on the plan, because it didn’t seem like anyone there wrote it. My 3-year-old witnessed me trying to explain myself and leaving the store in tears. I contacted the Michael Hill head office and they promptly handed the matter right back to the manager in the Greensborough store. The manager, Gabby, was defensive and said it was my responsibility to check after the staff fills out the paperwork. I don't think I should have to do that as a customer. How am I expected to know what has to be on the plan to pass muster in future visits? I went back to head office asking but they refused to help us any further, and they confirmed that the diamond warranty had been voided because there wasn’t sufficient evidence of checks being done. Here’s another tip. Do yourself a favour and avoid Michael Hill altogether.
Extremely disappointed with the customer service at Michael Hill. My first Michael Hill purchase and my last!!! I ordered a beautiful pearl ring and within 2 weeks of having it the Pearl became loose. I sent the ring back to be repaired as I had taken out the care plan. The ring returned from the repairs and then the next day the Pearl had fallen off. I contacted the Greensborough store and was told that there was nothing that they can do, and to contact customer service. I emailed customer service and was told that there was simply nothing that they could do given that the Pearl was lost. I find this extremely frustrating, given the fact that ring had been repaired and within 24 hours of wearing the ring it had completed faulted again. Disgraceful customer service and will be taking this further. A $400 ring that I wore for a total of 15 days and it spent more time getting repaired and ‘bad luck’ that the repair was faulty.
Really disappointed with the customer service and product quality at this store. After being told that I would need to pay for repairs on bracelet that has cracked and isn’t even twelve months old. Will no longer be shopping with this company.
Thoroughly condescending, bordering on rude, customer service from the man there whom I think might even be manager, supervisor at least. It's almost as though he doesn't want to sell things and looks down his just-a-sales-clerk nose upon one. So unhelpful and sneering--will go elsewhere from now on. It's a shame as I've fond memories shopping for my engagement with Michael Hill.
Staff helpful and friendly. It's always nice walking in to a jewellery store. I always find them a little more expensive than other places though, but they seem to have slightly better quality pieces in house than most other jewellery stores. Worth a look if you need something, or not, just don't forget your wallet.
Needed a birthday present for my mum and Talara was a huge help! Thank you so much for your excellent service!
